He currently has a grant from the Toyota Foundation for collaborative research on farming systems development in the Mekong Delta, beginning after he returns to Vietnam at the end of July. He will be on campus June 30th-July 2nd. Dr. Nguyen’s research interests include soil and environmental microbiology, bioremediation of xenobiotic pollutants in agricultural soils, diversity and microbial ecology of beneficial microorganisms in the System of Rice Intensification (SRI), diversity and microbial ecology of methane-oxidizing microorganisms (methanotrophs) and methane-producing microorganisms (methanogens) in SRI soil, use of azolla as a bio-fertilizer for organic agriculture and for bioremediation of contaminated water. Dr. Nguyen received his PhD in soil ecology and environmental microbiology from the Technical University of Munich in Germany in 2012.
