FSP is a personal load bearing and protection concept which enables the user with the ability to adapt, through scalability and modularity. We developed the FSP by analyzing the tactical and operational requirements that armed forces and law enforcement agencies face. All the components of FSP, THOR load bearing, GARM combat clothing, SKJOLD body armor and OPS-CORE helmet systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with each other. As a result, FSP enables the user to remain protected whilst adapting capacity, level of protection and appearance depending on the threat level and environmental conditions.
GARM combat clothingGARM is NFM’s combat clothing
system, which incorporatesa complete line of combat
garments – from underwear toouterwear. All design aspects
of the system have beencarefully implemented from
end user feedback. The aimis always to reduce weight but
also improve durability, protection and compressibility of every item. GARM has also
inspired NFM’s fire retardancy (FR) standards, an industry
first, on the best ways of wearing fire retardant layers.

Reliability
Quality is at the center of our corporate philosophy. We are certified with PN-EN ISO 9001:2009 and PN-EN ISO 14001:2005 and PN-N-19001:2006. NFM offers full traceability of critical raw materials and processes to ensure order-to-order stability. Our raw materials are tested thoroughly, using well defined testing procedures.
Our internal labs allow us to test both ballistics and textiles during development whilst external labs are used for test reports and certification of products. Extensive cooperation with our partners and incoming quality control ensures raw material quality. Quality related KPIs are continuously measured and new quality objectives are defined each year, in order to constantly improve our processes.
NFM has technology at its core; this longstanding principle has led to the development of innovative technologies which form the building blocks of SKJOLD. Our patented technology forms the basis of the composite armor plates. It consists of a vacuum consolidation method that eliminates the encapsulated air combined with an environmentally friendly moulding process. This ensures that the fibre composites which reinforce the ceramic core always conform and support the ceramic, keeping it in a compressive state and maximising performance.
When a soldier wears a SJKOLD body armor solution, he can be confident that it is going to protect him against operational threats regardless of environmental constraints. We have implemented the necessary processes from research, production, quality assurance and life cycle management ensuring that every SKJOLD system saves lives, every time.

Comfort
We understand that each individual soldier has a different physical build, but what they all have in common is the desire for comfort and mobility. We aim to provide our clients with the lightest, most comfortable and ergonomical system on the market.
Optimizing comfort when the different elements of THOR, GARM and SKJOLD are working together is always a consideration when ballistic protection is at the heart of the system. We deliver the lightest ballistic protection, contributing to an overall reduction in weight of the system whilst also minimizing its volume.
From our soft ballistics vest to our flagship hard ballistics HEXA armor, SKJOLD systems provides the soldier with maximum protection whilst simultaneously reducing weight and bulkiness. A combination of both soft and hard armor will give added protection, whilst separately they can combat different threats.

AdaptabilityHaving the ability to be adaptable on today’s battlefield is key. That is why, through our client partnerships, we are able to provide an overall solution that allows commanders to make an analysis of what level of protection is acceptable, given the threat at that point in time. Providing these commanders with a modular toolkit of armor, allows decisions to be delegated to the level where the threat is being assessed, improving operational effectiveness.
18
NFM has also developed a portfolio of products to address other standards and requirements, below is an ilustration of some of the types of products which we can offer to suit every need and budget.
NIJ4-3A-P23NIJ4-3A-P23 is a hybrid of polyethylene materials, which combined provide protection against NIJ 0101.04 level IIIA threats in a high value package. The resultant composite is slightly heavier than NIJ4-3A-P23, but also more economical. The use of polyethylene results in a floatable composite which is resistant to chemical agents. Net areal weight: 4.95 kg/m2
TRL8-SK1-A05NFM has developed TRL8-SK1-A05 as a premium package for the police or military users, which provides a low trauma lightweight pack with good protection against a range of 9 mm threats. TRL8-SK1-A05 saves more than 25% of the weight of typical soft armour at this level. It can often be combined with plates which are originally designed for use with NIJ 0101.04 IIIA soft armour. This package has been tested in a wide variety of environmental conditions including -20oC and +70oC. Net areal weight: 4.18 kg/m2
Soldier Solution – VPAM-3-P35Most protective standards are based on threats more commonly met by police forces focusing on pistol threats, which inevitably adds bulk and weight. When we look at the military environment there is a greater need to protect against fragmentation threats. We also believe it is important to retain protection from 9mm which results in P35 being the optimal solution for today’s modern military.Net areal weight: 4.18 kg/m2
NIJ-3A-AGS02NIJ-3A-AGS02 is a solution based on unidirectional aramid materials, which combined provide protection against NIJ 0101.04 level IIIA threads. NFM engineers have managed to design the solution, which offers perfect weight/performance/price rate.Net areal weight: 6,15 kg/m2
VPAM-3-AP19VPAM-3-AP19 is a hybrid of polyethylene and aramid materials, which combined provide protection against VPAM BSW level 3 thread and in parallel ensures very good protection against 1,1 g and 0,325 g FSP.The resultant composite is slightly heavier than VPAM-3-P35, but also more economical.Net areal weight: 4,5 kg/m2

Soft Ballistics PerformancePrior to selecting any kind of SKJOLD body armor system it is of vital importance to consider and appreciate the relationships between some key performance indicators.
Areal weight – a measure of weight per square metre. The basic product weight always needs to be considered with respect to the protected surface.
Protection – test standards, selected ammunition and velocity will determine the level of protection.
Flexibility – a key indicator of comfort.
Thickness – designing thin solutions whilst maintaining flexibility adds to performance.
Price – lighter solutions will generally add to the overall price.
The ideal solution is to have a maximum level of protection and flexibility whilst reducing thickness, areal weight and price. Inevitably, there are compromises to be made but our advanced technology and materials ensure that we are consistently delivering optimum solutions.
Our internal labs allow us to test both ballistics and textiles during development whilst external labs are used for test reports and certification of products.

We are looking at optimizing protection and multi-shot/edge protection whilst reducing overall weight and price.
NIJ4-43-ICW-B01NIJ4-43-ICW-B01 is NFM’s state of the art hard ballistic composite that has been envisioned as part of NFM’s soldier optimized plate. The use of the newest materials available in the market have allowed NFM to develop a high performance composite that provides protection against heavy armor piercing threats with a low weight. NIJ4-43-ICW-B01 complies with NIJ 0101.04 levels IV ICW with a IIIA soft ballistic package. The plate has very good stand-alone capabilities, against the projectiles like BZAPI, M43 or SS109. Areal weight: 35 kg/m2
T4 weight: 2,250 kg
NIJ4-43-ICW-A03The NIJ4-43-ICW-A03 plate provides high antiballistic performance with regard to armour piercing rifle ammunitions, multi-hit and edge shot capabilities. The plate design is based on the high performance backing system, which ensures low trauma against high power projectiles. Areal weight: 36,5 kg/m2 T4 weight: 2,350 kg
NIJ4-3PP-ICW-A01NIJ4-3PP-ICW-A01 is NFM’s development of an NIJ III plate ICW a IIIA basic protection insert. The use of ballistic grade ceramics provides multi-hit capabilities while keeping the composite in a light and thin package. NIJ4-3PP-ICW-A01 offers a good level of protection against the most common rifle threats, such as M80, M43 MSC or SS109.Areal weight: 26 kg/m2
T4 weight: 1,750 kg
VPAM-4P-ICW-P02The use of pressed PE plates provides a certain number of benefits compared to their ceramic and steel counter parts. PE is floatable, resistant to water, chemicals and the mechanical damage, which makes it the product of choice in marine and high humid environments. VPAM-4P-ICW-P02 a hard ballistic plate guarantees protection against the VPAM level 4 threads, plus Russian ammunition PSM and Tokarev MSC.Areal weight: 9 kg/m2
T4 weight: 0,580 kg
NIJ04-43-ICW-A02For those who look for superior protection against AP threats, but are on a budget, this is NFM’s price optimized ballistic plate for NIJ level IV. It also provides multi-hit protection to some extent for a range of less aggressive bullets.Areal weight: 40 kg/m2
T4 weight: 2,550 kg

Hard Ballistics PerformanceWhen dealing with hard ballistics (HB) we have several variables to consider.
Weight – a measure of weight related to protective surface.
Performance – test standards, selected ammunition and velocity will determine the level of protection.
Thickness – affects the ergonomics of the soldier.
Price – lighter solutions will generally add to the overall price.
The ceramic cores are encapsulated into an envelope of high performing fiberglass, with a PET matrix which helps to control the crack pattern and provides superior multi-hit capabilities.
SKJOLD body armor plates also have a significant area of active protection. Most of the standards for body armor classification define fair-hit as far as 50-75mm from the edge. Plates produced by NFM can provide effective protection as close as 13 mm from the edge.
Compared to our competitors:
Our plates stop a larger amount of bullets/weight (multi-hit capacity)
Our plates stop a larger amount of bullets/area (edge- shot capacity)
Our plates stop the fragments from the ceramic strike face (when hit by a bullet, fragments are propelled from the strike face and may inflict damage on the user)
Our plates withstand rapid changes in pressure (during HAHO/HALO deployment)
Our plates are waterproof under pressure (during underwater deployment)
Our plates have a low mass and are thinner (Kg and position- enhanced balance)
Our plates are ergonomically shaped (enhanced protection and mobility)
