=======================================================================This section contains additional informations and updates that are not covered by the operating system-specific sections of the installation guides.

l NOTE: For information on downloading patches from SAP, see http://service.sap.com/sp-stacks l Installation Perequisite Checker:

The Prerequisite Checker provides detailed information about the requirements that you need to meet before you start the installation. Forexample, it checks the requirements for the different installation services.For more information, see chapter "Hardware and Software Requirements" in the installation guide for your SAP solution and SAP Note 855498.

All Operating Systems:

==================================================================

AIX: You have to set the limits for operating system users as described in SAP Note 323816

HP-UX, Linux, Solaris: Make sure that you have set the limits for operating system users root,<sapsid>adm, and your database-specificoperating system users (see also section "Creating Operating System Users and Groups" and "Running the Installer" in the installation guide).

Caution: the limit mechanism supports hard- and soft-limits. The soft-limit cannot be bigger than the hard-limit. The hard-limit can be set/increasedby the root user like: limit -h <limit> <new_value> ( e.g. limit -h datasize unlimited ).

l Using csh shell, the output* of command 'limit' needs to be at least as follows:

*example output taken from SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64)

l Using sh or ksh shell, the output* of command 'ulimit -a' needs to be at least as follows:

*example output taken from SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64)

=======================================================================

----------------------<D045843, DEC 15, 08>--------------------------RHEL <= 4.7 only: Error in step "Create Users for SAP system"

Symptom:You are running SAPinst on Red Hat Linux <= RHEL 4.7 .You get an error like the following in step "Create Users for SAP system" (sapinst_dev.log):***********Return value of function pam_chauthtok(pamh, 0) is NOT PAM_SUCCESS: Authentication token manipulation error.Error number 211 error type SPECIFIC_CODEError number 207 error type SPECIFIC_CODEFSH-00006 Return value of function pam_chauthtok(pamh, 0) is NOT PAM_SUCCESS: Authentication token manipulation error.************Solution:Proceed as follows:

1. Stop SAPinst.

2. Create the following operating system users manually:

<sapsid>adm

sapadm

<dasid>adm

ora<dbsid> (if your database is Oracle)

sqd<sapsid>, sdb (if your database is MaxDB)

db2<dbsid> (if your database is DB2 UDB for Linux, UNIX, and Windows)

We recommend that you assign the same password to these operating system users as the Master Password that you intend to useduring the installation with SAPinst.

For more information, see section "Creating Operating System Users" in the installation guide for your SAP system athttp://service.sap.com/instguides.

3. Restart SAPinst with installation option "Run a New Option".

5 Post-Installation

=======================================================================

-----------------------<19/MAY/09, D045843>-------------------------- AIX: Check user limits for operating system users

Check and - if required - adjust user limits for operating system users as described in SAP Note 323816.

Symptom: After the installation has finished successfully, there are entries in the instance profiles that start processes rslgcoll and rslgsend. Theseprocesses do not need to run automatically when the instance is started.

Solution:Proceed as follows:

1. Go to the "profile" directory.This directory is located at: /<sapmnt>/<SAPSID>/profile

2. Edit the instance profile file(s).Instance profiles are named as follows:<SAPSID>_<INSTANCE_ID>_<hostname>  Example:NY0_J04_pwdf2308

3. Remove or comment out the following lines:#

# Start syslog collector daemon #  _CO = co.sap$(SAPSYSTEMNAME)_$(INSTANCE_NAME) Execute_XX = local rm -f $(_CO) Execute_XX = local ln -s -f $(DIR_EXECUTABLE)/rslgcoll $(_CO) Start_Program_XX = local $(_CO) pf=$(_PF) -F

# # Start syslog send daemon #

 _SE = se.sap$(SAPSYSTEMNAME)_$(INSTANCE_NAME)

Execute_XX = local rm -f $(_SE) Execute_XX = local ln -s -f $(DIR_EXECUTABLE)/rslgsend $(_SE) Start_Program_XX = local $(_SE) pf=$(_PF) -FNote:XX is a two-digit number.

4. Save the instance profile file(s).
