Team Members, As I reflect on the many achievements we have had in 2014, I want to take a moment to personally thank you for your effort and dedication. It is your hard work every day that makes our business such a tremendous success year after year. Our future growth depends upon the memorable experiences that we give to our guests during each and every visit. The contributions that you make each day ensure that our guests make our casinos their first and only gaming choice. Our guests have several entertainment options in the valley, but you set us apart from our competitors. Because of you we shine brightly not only during this holiday season, but also throughout the year.I wish you all a wonderful holiday season. May you have a happy and healthy New Year and enjoy this special time of the year with your friends, family and our guests. With my sincere appreciation and warmest regards,
Sincerely,Janice Ponziani
MESSAGE FROM THE ACTING CEO
JANICE PONZIANI
December 10th will mark the 10th anniversary of the Arizona Water Settlement Act, the federal legislation that provides for a settlement between the Gila River Indian Community’s water claims. The Act is a culmination of decades of negotiation among the Community and other major water suppliers in Central Arizona. This Act also ends the largest water settlement in American History and became the Gila River Water Settlement Day. Gila River Water Settlement Day is now an annual Community holiday and gives Community Members an opportunity to reflect upon the vital role water played in the lives of our ancestors and in our lives today.
On Gila River Water Settlement Day, let us continue to be grateful for the natural resources that we have been given for our sustenance as a people. Water is life and let us be ever mindful of this and the vital role water plays in all our lives and in the future.
The Board of Directors and Arizona Coyotes get ready for a festive holiday season by wrapping up the 2014 happy holidays commercial at the new Gila River Arena on November 10th. Here are some behind the scene shots.
WATER SETTLEMENT DAY
BEHIND THE SCENES
On Saturday, December 13 Gila River Casinos team members will Ignite Hope for the patients who are hospitalized during the holidays. The 3rd annual candlelight walk promises to be an inspirational event for the whole family. The 1.7 mile walk to the hospital begins at Phoenix Plaza (Central and Thomas) with a family-friendly event that includes superheroes, face painting, refreshments and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus. As walkers arrive in front of the hospital, Phoenix Children’s Hospital patients will hold candles in their windows to welcome them. Following a short program and holiday carols with patients and special guests, the Phoenix Children’s Christmas tree will be lit.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk was an evening of celebration and commemoration of lives touched by cancer. The family-friendly event included a leisurely one mile walk, food, entertainment, kid’s zone, celebration of life and a fireworks display. Together, supporters lit up the night sky carrying illuminated balloons: red for supporters, white for survivors and gold in honor of lives lost. Our support helps patients live better and longer lives. Thank you to the Gila River Casinos team members who came out with friends and families to volunteer for the event.
LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK, WAS A HUGE SUCCESS, THANK YOU!
It’s happened in most of our hallways and office spaces. People are in a hurry and they move
quickly towards a hallway intersection. Not paying attention, someone else is coming the other way
and “BAM!” two people collide. Now that’s a disaster to the Safety Committee!
The Safety Committee has installed additional safety mirrors at major hallway intersections
allowing people to see around corner and to react to the person before any
potential impact or other dangerous scenarios occur.
The newly elected Governor of the Gila River Indian Community is Governor-elect Stephen Roe Lewis. The newly elected Lt. Governor of the Gila River Indian Community is Lieutenant Governor-elect Monica Antone.
