Thank you to all of the families who have met with
Ms. Paige for family goal setting. We have completed
setting 97% of families’ goals!
All parents are part of our Parent Committee!
We need your help!
Parent Committee Meetings are Mondays from
12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in the Bishop Indian Head
Start Community Room.
Parent Committee helps insure that your child’s and
family’s needs are being met here at BIHS. Parent
Committee also elects our Policy Council members.
Come and be a part of planning the fun and
enriching activities we provide for our students and
families!
Make sure to check out our calendar!
Stay up to date on all the important events we have
going on!
Please encourage your child not to jump off of the
steps of the bus. We are trying to teach the
children to hold the hand rail and step down on
each step when they exit the bus. The clothes that
are left on the bus are in the lost and found bucket
in the front hall way.
Labeling Your Child’s Clothes Please remember to label your children’s clothes
with their name inside so that if they are left on
the bus or playground we will be able to return
them to you.

Congratulations BIHS parents on 100% car seat usage
rate for the last 2 months.
You may have noticed that observations take
place regularly in the BIHS parking lot. The
purpose is to observe proper car seat usage. In
addition to observing for child car seat needs
and safety education.
We partner with the Office of Head Start and
California Rural Indian Health Board (CRIHB)
to be able to receive Car Seats for our families
and child passenger safety trainings/events. If
you need a car seat for your child, please let us
know so that we can install a new car seat for
your child.
ATTENTION PARENTS
Please complete your ASQ Survey
ASAP!
The ASQ questionnaire provides the
information needed to advocate for
children in our community. The ASQ
parent input helps affect changes at
the county level for children’s services
and educational opportunities. Please
turn your completed surveys in to Susie
or Mandy. We can reprint your child’s
ASP parent questionnaires. Thank you!

Toddlers need about 12-14
hours of sleep in a 24-hour period. When they
reach about 18 months of age their naptimes will
decrease to once a day lasting about one to three
hours. Naps should not occur too close to bedtime
as they may delay sleep at night.
• Research suggests that sleep plays an
important role in memory, both before
and after learning a new task.
• Lack of adequate sleep affects mood,
motivation, judgment and our perception
of events.
• Although there are some open questions
about the specific role of sleep in
forming and storing memories, the
general consensus is that consolidated
sleep throughout a whole night is
optimal for learning and memory.
• Sleep plays a major role in the ability to
learn new tasks that require motor
coordination and performance. A resource from the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical

Positive Guidance Techniques
• Warn children at least 5 minutes before a change of
activity so they have time to finish what they are doing.
• Use specific statements rather than general statements. Keep
your words to a minimum.
• Learn to foresee, and prevent
problem situations.

American Heart Saver Pediatric
CPR, First Aid and AED Class at
BIHS
If you are interested in learning about how to help
save a life please let us know. Classes will be
offered throughout the school year.
CPR & Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Facts: Anyone can learn CPR and everyone should! Sadly, 70 percent of Americans may feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency because they either do not know how to administer CPR or their training has significantly lapsed. This alarming statistic could hit close to home, because home is exactly where 88 percent of cardiac arrests occur. Put very simply: The life you save with CPR is mostly likely to be with someone you know or love.

CPR, First Aid, AED Class Thank you to the students who attended the
CPR, First Aid, AED Class on Thursday, November 29th.
You all are great students!
Handwashing It is like a "do-it-yourself" vaccine—it involves five simple and effective steps (Wet, Lather, Scrub, Rinse, Dry) you can take to reduce the spread of gastrological and respiratory illness, so you can stay healthy. Regular handwashing, particularly before and after certain activities, is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others. It's quick, it's simple, and it can keep us all from getting sick. Handwashing is a win for everyone, except the germs.
1.Wet hands
2. Apply soap
3. Lather for 20-30 seconds
4. Rinse well under running
water
5. Dry hands with a paper
towel
6. Turn off water with
paper towel
