ABOUT THE SOFA

Handmade by craftsmenAll our models of poltronesofà are carefully and authentically handmade with genuine craftsmanship at every stage: technical and aesthetic research, choice of the fabrics and of the colours, technological innovation and quality control. For this reason the measurements of soft furniture are purely indicative and therefore are not binding in case of any claim pertaining to them. Before getting to your house, the sofa is subject to long transport which might temporarily compromise its exterior quality, especially in case of filling in polyester or goose feathers: once it gets to your house it must be delicately straightened out to resume its original form that was lost during transport.

Any discrepancies with order are to be notified strictly upon delivery.

THE STRUCTURE

The essence of the materials usedStrength and resilience: this is the essence of our armchairs and of our sofas, because they are handmade using the most resilient materials. The structural parts of the frame are made of solid wood, the finishing parts are made of MDF panels while the evident parts (legs, bars, base) are made of hardwood, ABS resin, chromed steel, aluminium or a mixture of polished alloys etc.

WarningThe frame of your sofa will remain in perfect condition as long as the following advice is followed:• Do not jump on the sofa and do not throw yourself violently over it.• Do not sit on the arms and/or on the back of the sofa.• Do not drag the sofa on rough surfaces (carpets, rugs, etc.)and if ever moved over smooth surfaces it must not be lifted up or pushed. Compliance to the above will avoid any possible breakdown of the joints.

THE FILLING

Rigorous formsPolyurethanes provide our fillings with a perfect form. These are synthetic materials which are non-toxic because they do not contain chlorofluorocarbons. Expanded polyurethanes due to their molecular structure are particularly light and breathable.

WarningsThe fillings in expanded polyurethanes tend to soften in the first 3 months but then settle for good. This is absolutely normal because when one or more persons sit down for the first times they apply a pressure on the cushions which brings about an opening in the microcells which make up the polyurethane. This kind of opening, which is absolutely physiological for this kind of material, brings about a slight degree of softening. For the same reason it is absolutely normal that when the sofa is bought the softness of one seat or of one back filled with expanded polyurethane might differ from the one next to it: this feature will disappear after the first 3 months of normal use. Following the physiological setting of the filling some slight folds might show up on the cover: these are absolutely normal.

Light heartedOur fillings are also made up of feathers, an anti-static material which is also hygienically safe, thanks to the innovative cleaning and sterilization processes. Poltronesofà uses goose and duck feather because of their superior elasticity and also because they may be combined with the following materials:• polyurethane particles• polyester fibre• polyurethane inserts.

WarningsThe feather cushions are known for their softness and comfort andan airing is sufficient for their correct maintenance.A soft feeling

Wadding is a special material made up of polyester fibre with hollow sections which ensure volume and softness. The rippling of the threads which is saw tooth crimping, provides this material the capacity to last over long periods. In our cushions, the wadding is normally combined with expanded polyurethane.

To maintain the sofa in perfect condition one must (whenever possible) change the position of both the back and seat cushions (the right to the left and vice versa).

Our fabrics are produced by the best producers in the world, a style which makes our armchairs and sofas unique on the market. Our experts follow closely their manufacturing, paying particular attention to the yarns used and to the production techniques: all the fabrics of our collection are preventively subjected to the required tests for use and maintenance in specialist laboratories which check:

• Abrasion resistanceCovers are most subject to this stress and it is measured by the test known as the Martindale Method, using a tool where a pad of felt turns continuously on a sample of fabric measuring its resistance.

• Stitch hold under tension

• PillingThis is the phenomenon by which small balls form on the surface of the fabric because of rubbing.

• Colour resistance and hold in water, light and with use.

Made-to-measure tailoringParticular care is taken in the creation of the covers for the armchairs and sofas, with great attention paid to cutting the materials and assembling the pieces with appropriate stitching. All poltronesofà’s fabric sofas are produced so as to allow the end user to fully fit and remove the covers with ease (as described later).

Cleaning the fabric coversOur sofas have been produced to make cleaning and maintenance simple, for this we recommend you follow the suggestions in this brochure and adhere to the cleaning methods shown on the label that you will find attached to the guarantee. We list below some important information to consider when cleaning your poltronesofà cover.

Before cleaning, the Velcro must always be covered with Velcro cover tape to avoid damage to the fabric.

• Cleaning and stain removalThe aim of cleaning is to remove everyday, overall dirt.

• Dry cleaning: most of our covers can be dry cleaned, as this method ensures a cleaning without any damages; therefore, it is recommended for cleaning/washing most of our fabrics.

• Washing in water: many of our fabrics can be washed in water, by hand or machine washed. We ask you to strictly follow the instructions, which will be provided on purchase, about the option of washing the fabric in water. For a good outcome we recommend that you use specialist cleaners.

• Machine washing: temperature 30°, delicate programme, no spin. To avoid rubbing on the drum spoiling the fabric, turn the cushion covers and main cover inside out and place them in a net bag. Use neutral soap without optical brighteners, as common detergents contain whiteners which alter colours.

• Hand washing: temperature no higher than 30° Wash the covers, after having turned them inside out, using neutral soap without optical brighteners, as common detergents contain whiteners which alter colours.

Further recommendationsAfter washing we recommend that you lay the wet sofa covers out flat (and do not hang them up) to avoid the covers, which will inevitably be heavier, loosing their shape. The fabric must never be dried in sunlight. If the washing instructions allow, the cover can be ironed on the reverse to avoid unattractive burns and any other marks on the fabric. To make covers replacement easier after washing, we recommend refitting when the fabric is still slightly damp, because it adapts better to the shape of the sofa.A caress on your skinAll the armchairs and sofas poltronesofà are made of leather that comes from the best cattle breeding;these are chosen carefully and then they are treated in the tannery using

the most modern techniques of production and colouring. Through these techniques signs such as wrinkles and scratches and rendered less visible, and if still evident they still show the undisputable value of natural leather. Every leather sofa is unique since every layer that is used in its production bears a history related by the natural signs that are evident at the surface such as healed scars, veins, shadows, scratches, unequal shade reflections and streaks caused by natural wrinkles.

Leather cleaningPeriodically dust with a clean, dry and soft cloth. • For dry dirt: brush delicately with a soft brush.• For stains coming from water-soluble substances (drinks, coffee, tea...): remove the liquid from the surface by stopping the liquid with a cloth or a blotting paper and brush delicately using a damp clean cloth. Do not soak the leather surface and dry immediately with a clean cloth. Do not dry the leather in the sun or with a hair dryer.• For stains coming from greasy substances (oil, mayonnaise, chocolate...): remove the substance from the surface paying attention not to press to avoid the dirt from penetrating into the leather pores. Brushing delicately using a clean cloth soaked in water. Dry immediately with a clean cloth. Use only water. Attention: the use of detergents which are not suggested maydamage the leather beyond repair causing a loss of colour.

Taking care of the leather coverIf you bought a leather sofa we recommend that you read carefully the following instructions, focusing in particular on the suggestions for the maintenance, care and to the relevant warnings pertaining to this particular cover.Natural leather is a noble and resilient material that acquires value in time. Thanks to its breathability and elasticity it offers an ideal comfort both in the hot as well as in the cold months: moreover, since it adheres perfectly to body forms it conveys a pleasant feeling of a warm hug. In some parts of the sofa, we might use the crust, which is the part beneath the leather, which is also a natural product.

Warnings for the fabric sofas and leather sofas• Keep the sofa at least 50cms away from sources of heat such as heaters and avoid direct exposure to sun or to powerful lamps: the aforementioned cause, as well as the use of detergents that are not suggested, damages beyond repair to leather and fabric covers.

• If you buy a new sofa with a cover which is the same in colour and as per item to the one you already have it is possible that since each and every fabric and leather cover has its own features, you might notice a slight difference in shade between the two.

THE RELAX FUNCTIONS

The use of relax functions vary according to the models.

Manual mechanismSofas and armchairs with recliners give you the possibility to change the inclination of the back, bringing legs to a horizontal position and changing the setting of the seat. The opening of the mechanism may occur in the following ways: • Using the handle which is placed outside the arm. Once the handle is pulled the footrest opens. Exerting pressure with the bust, on the back, the armchair reclines completely.• Using the push mechanism which has no handle. To open the mechanism all one has to do is to place the body arms on the arms of the sofa and exert pressure on the same sofa arms pushing back with the back.• Using the lever placed between the seating cushion and the arm. Once the lever is pulled the footrest opens. Exerting pressure with the bust, on the back, the armchair reclines completely. The mechanism is closed by bringing the bust back in front and by accompanying the footrest with the legs towards the initial position.

Armchairs and sofas with electrical mechanismThe models with an electrical mechanism can have a remote control or a push-botton control in the outer side of the armrest. These controllers allow a motor to be activated as soon as the footrest is opened and the back is inclined up to the maximum that is allowed. The mechanism has a two year guarantee.

Warnings• Before using our relax products, check if the mechanism is blocked by a plastic strip. If this is the case it has to be removed. (see Fig. Below)• To clean the metal parts of the mechanism do not use solvents but just a damp cloth. • Do not let children play with the mechanism• The mechanism is to be used only when the person is properly seated.• If the mechanism squeaks during its use, the springs, the hinges and all the joints have to be slightly lubricated with normal lubricating sprays available on the market.

REMOVABLE COVERS

Product characteristicsThe sofas with a removable cover are produced in such a way to let you remove the cover easily so it may be washed. Our attention to the client and excellence of service is confirmed, even in this product line, by many details:• The fabrics have been chosen carefully so that their technical and esthetic characteristics remain the same after repeated washes.• The cushions and structure of the sofa may be covered to facilitate the installation of the external cover as this may be fixed using Velcro and zips.

MODULAR SOFAS

Product characteristicsT h e m o d u l a r i t y w a n t e d b y p o l t r o n e s o f à g i v e s y o u t h e opportunity to freely make up your own sofa, according to the personal needs of space. In the following illustration you may find an example of a composition which has been obtained using only some elements: side with a left arm, corner, middle seat and long side. We remind you that when two or more elements are combined the measurements of maximum obstruction may be reduced by a few centimetres when compared to the actual measurements of the elements.

According to the model the connection between the elements may take place in two different ways:• by using brackets.• by using a hook in the form of a “U” which is fixed to an element of the sofa.

Connection by bracketsThe connection is done by using metal brackets (1 and 2). Their shaping allows the quick linking of the different elements. Check that all brackets have been fastened completely and properly to avoid any instability of the single elements. If this is not achieved repeat the whole procedure.

InstallationAlign the parts, paying attention that all the brackets have been fastened properly.

DismantlingLift and move the left element until this is completely disconnected.

Warnings• Do not lift or move the sofa when it is still connected.• Each part of a complete model is covered at the sides in canvas and not with the cover that covers the sofa.• When fixed and reclining versions are joined, because of technical reasons, a misalignment of around 3cms in the lower back part of the modular sofa will be seen.

Connection with hooks in the form of a “U”This way of connecting the soda is made up of 2 adjustable metal hooks in the form of a “U”. One edge of the hook for safety purposes is fixed to one of the elements; the edge that remains free has to be inserted inside the holes that are found on the structure of the other element.

InstallationLift up the seat cushions, draw the 2 elements to each other and align. Insert by pushing down, the free part of the hook in the form of a “U” in the holes paying attention to widen or to tighten the screws according to the distance of the holes

DismantlingPull up the free part of the hook in the form of a “U” and remove the elements. Turn the hook round and bring it under the seat cushion.

Warnings• Do not lift or move the sofa while it is still connected.• Do not lift the elements to avoid the detachment of the hooks: if this had to happen it is possible to put them back in their slot.
