0 Instructions for Printing & Binding Delete this page before printing This page gets wasted even though it is printed, to maintain orientation of pages throughout the manual. Print on 20 Lb. Premium Paper or better. I prefer Spiral Bound with Clear Front Cover and Heavy Black Back Cover. This allows the manual to be opened and folded back leaving the desired page exposed and lays flat when opened to expose 2 pages while doing Inspections or Maintenance. This allows a blank page for making notes. I generally get them printed at Staples or Office Depot where it costs as little as $15.00 USD per manual. Some of the pictures are in Color for online viewing, but we print them in black & white except for the Cover. Be Safe & have Fun!!

Delete this page before printing

This page gets wasted even though it is printed, to maintain orientation of pages throughout the manual.

Press Block and Undersize Dowel for pressing dowels out when replacing bearings.

Tools needed: Torque Wrench (Inch Pound), Offset Phillips Screw Driver, 3/8” X 7/16” sockets and wrenches and Plastic Face Hammer or Hard Rubber Mallet.. 10 ton Press. Note: Never use a regular hammer to strike any part or fastener in the Slick Trim Assembly. Excessive force should not be required, all parts are machined fit. Gentle use of a plastic hammer should suffice. NEVER USE an impact driver to tighten nuts. Even small cordless impact drivers can over torque nuts. Use a cordless drill set on low resistance, 10 or 11 Something that simply snugs nuts prior to torqueing.

Assemble Side Plates and Actuator Plates, in opposite directions, for left and right sides. As shown above. Parts needed: 14 - MS24694-S59 or AN509-10R16 Countersunk Screw 14 – AN960-10 Washer Reg. 14 – AN365-1032 NyLock Nut Torque = 35 In.Lbs. Use 100 degree countersink if needed to assure flush screw heads.

Align hole to match angle of fixed hole on far end of actuator. NOTE: There must be 5/16” to less than 3/8” from the plastic dust sweeper to the inner edge of the ¼” hole. Note: any less than 5/16” will cause damage to the dust sweeper & can cause mechanical stoppage and screw jack damage. Use 12 VDC power to Run Actuator out and back in until it stops electrically and confirm measurement. To install Actuator:

Allow clevis pin to drop into bearing channel. Slide pin through actuator and insert Cowling pin. Note: The easiest way is to put actuator into position and turn unit over maintaining alignment. The pin will drop through when alignment is gained. Let gravity do the work, just gently move actuator until alignment is achieved, and the pin will drop through. Put cowling pin in to secure clevis pin.

Place PVC washer on each side of Anchor plate, and put AN4-47A through to secure actuator into position. With thin washer and nut, tighten to snug, 10 inch lbs.. NOTE: Wide Version changes to AN4-51A and each side of Anchor plate gets 2 AN4 thick washers on each end of steel tubes to get proper spacing. Connect electrical and cycle to insure full unobstructed movement of truck.

17

Insert 3 – 5/16” Bolts ( AN5-43) from the right side. Install Castle Nuts on left side, Finger Tight plus ( Like more than snug. ) whatever is needed to gain Cowling Pin alignment by light tightening. And install Cowling Pins.

Install 5/16” Northwing Safety Cable as shown, wrapping around Keel Tube in front of Down Tube Block. Both sides, using Spacers and AN5-47 Bolts furnished. Note: Make sure Stainless Tangs are bent out far enough to allow clearance of hang bolt as it moves fore and aft. Important Note: Run Trim to Aft position before raising the wing, this will allow more room to clear the nose of the Trike.

Inspection Procedures and Intervals

Annual and/or 100 Hour Inspections

1) Remove Wing & Slick Trim from Trike, for partial Dis-Assembly. 2) Before taking Trim off trike, electrically retract Actuator to aft shutoff position. 3) Remove Guard & Actuator from Trim Assembly. 4) Replace Clevis Pin and Cowling Pin in Truck. 5) Remove 7 – Nuts and washers on long 5/16” Bolts and 2 – remaining ¼” Actuator support plate

Bolts, that secure both halves together. 6) Separate both outer halves and remove Truck. 7) Inspect entire Truck for Cracks or Wear. 8) Inspect Bearings for wear and roughness of operation. Replace if necessary. **Note Below. 9) Inspect Bearing wear surfaces in the Side Plate Tracks and where the Lateral Alignment bearings

run above Tracks. Bearing Tracks must be kept Clean and Oil Free. Replace worn parts as needed.

10) Inspect Entire Assembly for cracks or excessive wear. Note: Any cracks in Anodized Parts will require replacement.

11) Inspect all bolts you have taken off for wear, Replace as needed. 12) Inspect 3/8” (AN5) Hang Bolt for excessive Wear or Distortion. With the head of the bolt over

the edge of a flat surface, roll the bolt to insure that it is straight. Any wear in excess to 0.002” in depth, sharp grooves or bent bolts must be replaced with new.

13) Inspect Actuator Screw by operating. Put ¼” bolt through end to keep it from turning while operating. Excess resistance may indicate the actuator screw jack is worn or damaged. There should be no end play in actuator arm while extended. End Play in excess of 0.013” will require Actuator replacement.

14) Generally, Nylon Lock Nuts should only be used through 3 removals. Be sure they have not lost their gripping power.

** Note: Bearing replacement is best accomplished by shipping Truck Assembly back to Pitman Air or your Authorized Slick Trim Dealer. Or Special Dies & Tools used to press bearings out can be purchased through Pitman Air. Important Note: Cracks in Anodized Surfaces become stress concentrations and/or indicate excessive stress. These Parts must be returned to Pitman Air for inspection. Replacement parts will supplied at our cost, or free of charge under Limited Warranty. Please accompany these parts with The Serial Number (located on the front of the Truck), an explanation of hours of use and any unusual circumstances that may have added to the wear or cracks. Use “Safety of Flight & Service Difficulty Report Form” in the back of this manual to report problems.

Appendix A Wiring of Seat Rail Rocker Switch on Northwing Apache:

Install Rocker Switch on seat rail near back of Front Seat on the left side as shown or on the right side, using hose clamps. Note: Put heavy durable tape on the inside of switch box to prevent wear of seat side. Note: Position hose clamps to prevent wear on seat and avoid a catch hazard for rear occupant legs. Coil extra wire below back seat. Note: It is best to coil the excess wire before routing to prevent un-needed twisting. Route the Actuator Wire up the back of Mast. Best to be on the back and under Foam protector, then secure with Zip Ties. Attach Power Source to Hot Box on a 5 amp max. circuit. We use the Strobe circuit, to power both the Strobe and Trim. And ground shield to empty negative post. If the Rocker functions backwards to your preference, simply switch the 2 power leads to reverse function. Hot Box wiring shown on next page.
