Pleasenotethatregisteringwiththepoliceproducesaforeigner'sidentificationnumber,NumerodeIdentidaddeExtranjero(NIE).AllGraduateAssistantsandCampusServiceworkersneedthisnumberinordertogetpaid.BerkleecannotpayanyonewithoutaNIE.

Yourfirststepisempadronamiento.ThisisaprocesswhereessentiallyyouinformthecityofValenciathatyoulivehere.Herearethegeneraldetails:

Accreditingyourpersonisveryeasy,itconsistsoftheoriginalandphotocopyofyourpassportornationalidentitycardfromanEU/ECCcountry.

Accreditingyourresidencedependsonyourlivingsituation.Ifyouarerentinganapartment,youwillneedtheoriginalandcopyofthelease(withyournameandthelandlordsnameonit)aswellasthelastmonthspaidbankreceipt(withyournameandthelandlordsnameonit).Thenamesmustmatchexactlyontheleaseandthereceiptandyournamemustmatchexactlyasthenameonyourpassport.

Ifyouhavenotsignedalease(orotherhousingrentalcontract)pleasecall010(thecityhallphonenumber).Theiroperatorscanhelpyoufindtherightdocumentstomatchyourpersonalsituation.

1.TwocopiesoftheEX18form(completeandsigned).Youcandownloadthemhere.AgoodtrickistofilloutoneformandBEFOREyousignit,photocopyit.Thensignbothforms.2.YourPassport/NationalID,(originalandphotocopyofallthepages)3.AletterstatingthatyouareenrolledatBerklee(originalandphotocopy).TheBerkleeregistrarcanprovidethisletter.Pleaseallow2daysfortheRegistrartoissuetheletter4.Proofofhealthinsurance(originalandphotocopy).TheRegistrarcanprovidethisalongwiththeenrollmentletter

Atthepolicestationyouwillbeaskedtosignadeclarationthatyouhaveatleast532.21eurosamonthforthelengthofyourstayinSpain.

Youwillalsobegivenaapplicationfeeformtofillout,taketoanybank,paytheapplicationfee(approx.15euros)andreturntothepolicestationwiththereceipt.Whenyoureturnwiththereceipt,thepolicefinishtheapplicationprocess.Ifyouhaveallyourdocuments,youcanusuallydoeverythinginonemorning.

Thepolicestationislocatedat9BailenStreet,andtheyareopenMondaythroughFridayfrom9:00amto2:00pm.Thispolicestationisonlyafewblocksfromcityhall.

Whenyougettothepolicestation,enterinthecourtyardandgotothedooronyourleft.Thepolicemanatthedoorwillgiveyouanumber.Thewaitingroomisinsidethesamedoor.Theydont

takeappointmentsandthereisoftenaonetotwohourwait,sobesuretobringabookorsomemusic.
