Mercury® Verado® Adapter Installation Instructions

To use a Garmin® GHP™ 20 SmartPump autopilot system with Mercury Verado engines, you must also install components provided in this kit. These instructions are needed, in addition to the GHP 20 Installation Instructions, for proper installation.

Hydraulic LayoutsNOTICE

If the steering system in your boat does not match any of the hydraulic layouts in this manual and you are unsure how to install the pump, contact Garmin Product Support.

Before you start the pump installation, identify the type of hydraulic steering system in your boat. Each boat is different, and you must consider certain aspects of the existing hydraulic layout before deciding where to mount the pump.

Hydraulic Layout Important ConsiderationsBecause the Mercury pump module is present in the Verado steering system, additional steps must be taken when installing the autopilot pump and Shadow Drive™ valve. Consult the hydraulic layout diagrams in this document to determine the best location to install the pump and Shadow Drive valve in the hydraulic system of your boat.This kit includes various lengths of hydraulic hose to complete the installation. Depending on the steering system of your boat, the hose lengths required, and the install configuration chosen, additional hose lengths or T-fittings may need to be purchased separately to complete the installation.• The high-pressure hydraulic hose that connects to the “P”

connector on the upper helm or the "P" or "T" connectors on the lower helm must not be cut or removed.

• The Shadow Drive valve must be installed horizontally, as level as possible.

• The Shadow Drive valve can be installed in either the port or starboard hydraulic line.

• The Shadow Drive valve must not be connected directly onto the helm. A length of hydraulic hose must be installed between the helm and the Shadow Drive valve.

• On a dual-helm boat, the Shadow Drive valve should be located between the T-fitting that connects the helms and the pump, so that both helms activate the Shadow Drive valve.

• On a single-helm boat, there should not be a T-fitting between the helm and the Shadow Drive valve.

result from installing only ORFS adapters directly into the Shadow Drive valve.

This kit includes the hydraulic fittings that are needed to install the GHP 20 SmartPump autopilot for use with your Mercury Verado steering system.• Two of the ORFS connectors are used to connect the hose

to the pump manifold when the pump is installed using the recommended two-connector, shutoff-valve method illustrated in these instructions.

• Four of the ORFS connectors are used to connect the hose to the pump manifold when the pump is installed using the alternative four-connector, no shutoff-valve method covered in the GHP 20 SmartPump Installation Instructions.

Connecting the Return Hose to the PumpThe low-pressure, return hydraulic hose from the helm (upper helm only in dual-helm installations) to the Mercury pump module must be branched and connected to the autopilot pump.1 Cut the return hose

the T-fitting, and securely clamp the connection.4 Screw the threaded end of the included fitting into the

SmartPump.Thread sealant should be used when connecting the fitting to the pump.

5 Connect the return hose to the barbed end of the fitting you installed on the SmartPump in step 4.

Completing the Installation1 After the installation is complete, fill the pump reservoir with

the included Mercury steering fluid.2 Bleed the steering system according to the instructions

provided with the steering system.3 Configure the autopilot according to the GHP 20 SmartPump

Raccords hydrauliquesAVIS

Les deux adaptateurs NPT et ORFS inclus doivent être installés sur la vanne Shadow Drive pour éviter toute obstruction du débit qui risquerait de se produire si seuls les adaptateurs ORFD sont installés directement sur la vanne Shadow Drive.

Ce kit inclut les raccords nécessaires à l'installation du pilote automatique GHP 20 SmartPump à utiliser avec votre système de navigation Mercury Verado.• Deux connecteurs ORFS sont utilisés pour relier le tuyau au

collecteur de pompe si la pompe est installée selon la méthode recommandée et illustrée dans ces instructions, c'est-à-dire avec les deux connecteurs et la vanne d'arrêt.

• Quatre connecteurs ORFS sont utilisés pour relier le tuyau au collecteur de pompe si la pompe est installée selon la méthode alternative, c'est-à-dire avec quatre connecteurs et sans vanne d'arrêt, présentée dans les instructions d'installation du GHP 20 SmartPump.

Fin de l'installation1 A la fin de l'installation, remplissez le réservoir de la pompe

avec le liquide de direction assistée Mercury .2 Vidangez le système de direction conformément aux

instructions fournies avec le système de navigation.3 Configurez le pilote automatique conformément aux

instructions d'installation du GHP 20 SmartPump.
