Bauer Media is Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group offers over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well

as online, TV and radio stations.

Bauer magazine focuses on providing a wide range of genres within the media. They focus on media such as magazines, radio, TV, online and digital businesses. This is effective because for example , if a magazine is directed at hip hop, those who find hip hop interesting will be likely to purchase it, but can then also listen to a radio station of that same magazine, which increases popularity of the brand name and suits the needs of the target audience.

They have many different magazines which particularly have a niche audience. Here are some examples:

This magazine is dedicated to the latest films by reviewing them and keeping the target audience up to date. The target audience is niche. This magazine would be targeted at people especially interested in films. The target audience would be people between the age of 16 and 40. There would not be a specific ethnicity, and the audience would be predominantly men. This is a prime example of Bauer media and their interests, as they target niche groups and specifically cater to their wants as a customer interested in a certain topic.

This magazine is dedicated to the latest gossip in the celebrity world. It also offers things such as dieting tips, latest fashion and shocking stories. The audience is mostly women between the ages of 16 and 40. This audience could be considered more of a mass audience, however, not all of the women within this age group would find gossip a certain interest. This perhaps would suit the wants of a working-class woman, as it is mentally fulfilling to gossip, it is an affordable magazine crammed with content and it reflects upon celebrity life, which working-class women typically find interesting or perhaps also idolise these individuals. There are also topics of interest, such as ‘The X-Factor’ which are popular within the working-class family and complement the hype at the time.

My magazine would appeal to Bauer, because they own magazines such as ‘Kerrang!’. They do many different music magazines and my ‘Moshpit’ magazine appeals to a niche audience. Bauer are interested in offering many different types of media and genres to everyone, especially those who are in a niche audience who have a specific interest.

This strategy does not guarantee mass sales of the magazines, however it does mean that those who by it a most likely completely interested on that topic, so it is easier to suit their needs as it would be simple to understand their demographics and shape factors such as their language, content and images to suit the target audience.

The demographics of my magazine are working-class individuals between the age of 13-25.
