  • 1. Institutional Research: Before planning my media trailer, I have decided to research into possible film institutions that can be included in my film trailer. The focus for the institutions research is to evaluate whether they are appropriate distributors for my film product in terms of the cost and credibility it brings. The three main institutions that I have decided to focus on is Columbia, Universal and DreamWorks. Columbia Columbia is an American film producer and distributor owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment which was founded in 1918. It is well known for its diverse film produce, such as The pursuit of happiness, Spider man and the Smurfs distributing its films worldwide. The company is also considered as one of the most leading film distributors in the world and films have been numerously awarded for the Academy Best pictures. For

2. example the film The pursuit of happiness had a box office of $307 million. I think this will be a good distributor for my film product as it is very diverse in its features of film genres and also offers allot of credibility due to its reputation of successful film products and also acknowledged as one of the best worldwide. This will therefore attract a wider audience due to the stigma attached to the company, reflecting on my film product. The company also distributes worldwide which will therefore allow my film product to reach a large audience and also help to generate maximum profit from its sales. Dream Works Dream works is an American film studio that develops, produces and distributes film products and other technologies such as video games and TV shows. The company is mostly distributed by Walt Disney Studios under Touchstone Pictures. They have produced many popular films such as Lincoln, She's out of my league and Fright night. It has produced or distributed more than ten films with box-office grosses earning more than $100 million for each film. I think this also may be a good film distributor, because once again it is very diverse and many of its films distributed have been targeted at young people within my target audience. Also it works with Walt Disney Studios who are primarily targeted at young people, therefore it has enough knowledge and experience with this target audience. My film also has a magical edge to it with the seven steps card, which is depicted in many films distributed by Dream works and Disney. This will therefore be an appropriate distributor for this. 3. Universal Universal studios is an American film studio, that distributes and produces films worldwide and is owned by Comcast. It is known for its unique display of films such as Apollo 13 and three of its films including Jaws (1975), E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and Jurassic Park (1993), achieved box office records, and become the highest-grossing film at the time. It is one of the six major movie studios that consistently command a number of box office revenues in a given market. I think this distributor will be good for my film product because has a reputable reputation of producing outstanding sales which is a very effective tool for my product and it is has distributed many unique films that have grown to be successful. Final Choice: From analysing each of the film institutions, I have decided to choose Universal as my film distributor. This is because it is offers a lot of credibility to their products and to their brand allowing them to be successful in producing exceptional revenue which is the overall aim of my film product. The company also distributes their products worldwide which allows the film product to reach a larger audience and finally it produces a vast range of films that have all been successful. Furthermore think having them as a distributor will stimulate sales and views allowing my product to be effective and successful.
