Student Expo – Musgrave – 26th & 27th Aug
The IWMSA offered our members the opportunity to partner
with us in exhibiting at The Student Expo in Musgrave Centre,
Durban.
This is South Africa’s only exhibition that is designed to provide
both scholars and prospective students the necessary tools to
succeed in professional tertiary education and beyond.
“The Student Expo” specifically targets the Top schools, gives
them the opportunity to gain guidance on what & where to study
and meet the institutions in person.
University students are being encouraged to meet face-to-face
with company representatives to discuss job opportunities
available to them in South Africa.
Recycling Seminar – 16th September
The KZN Recycling Forum together with the IWMSA
KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Branch celebrated Recycling Day on
Friday, 16th September 2016.
The event was very well attended with 130 delegates from
various industries debating the topic: ‘Is zero waste to landfill
achievable?’
The event highlighted that South Africa is still lacking behind
developed countries in term of alternative technologies to
landfill however facilities have started to emerge to assist
companies in reaching their environmental goals. The event
sponsored by Interwaste was a great networking opportunity
for companies to share their ideas on how to improve their
current waste performance.
Recycling Seminar – 16th September
Recycling Event for Children – 17th September
Sue Beningfield from our KZN Committee spent the
morning at the Zimbali Community Centre educating the
children on recycling and the 3 R’s in Waste.
It was the perfect weather to be indoors on Saturday 17th
September to make various crafts from recyclable materials.
We had the kids making all sorts of things- crowns, picture
flowers, robots, rockets, aeroplanes, cars and just colouring in
the 3R’s- Reduce- Reuse –Recycle pictures.
Our winner, Layla, spent hours constructing a very impressive
castle with her dad & then painted it herself.
Recycling Event for Children – 17th September
17th September – Coastal Clean-Up
Saturday the 17th September saw the 20th year that South
Africa actively participated in the International Coastal
Clean-Up Day – an annual event that sees thousands of
volunteers from around the world pick up litter from the
beaches.
This year we joined the Chelsea Preparatory School
group to assist in picking up litter.
Braving the rain armed with smiles, plastic gloves and
litter bags our Chelsea Champs walked in the rain for
two hours scouring bushes and side roads within the
Beachwood Nature Reserve.
