SPOT THE 7 DIFFERENCES IN EACH SET OF PICTURES
Greetings from your President: Dear Members, Hopefully you have had a busy and productive fall. The beautiful weather made it all the more enjoyable and the flowers just kept on blooming! The Provincial Board members have been very active on your behalf. We hope that the changes made to the Registration and Convenership Forms will help to clarify things once you get used to them. Please let us know if any new members have joined your branch. Also there are several new and updated program kits at your disposal. We are pleased to announce that we have well exceeded the $115,000 commitment to
the Neonatal Unit at the QEH. Any monies yet to come in for this purpose will still be designated to the Neonatal as we know that equipment there is always needed and appreciated. In October, the Board had an “Autumn Retreat” where we met with a Marketing Consultant to help our organization reach out to the younger generation so that WI will remain viable well into the future. Lots of new ideas were presented for us to consider. Also in October, at the Fall Workshops we launched the new Heart Health program which was formulated by FWIC. On PEI, we hope our challenge to “Walk across Canada with Me” will be picked up by many people so we can arrive in BC by June of 2012 for our next National Convention! By then we should be well on the Road to Better Health!! As we look forward to our Provincial Convention in May, don’t forget that this is Resolution Year. Many great initiatives have been undertaken for the benefit of our province because someone brought an idea to the Convention Floor. Resolutions may come from the branch, district or provincial level, so put on your thinking caps. The PEIWI Board has just produced a colorful little booklet “Christmas Treats and Treasures”. It is designed to serve as a cookbook with inspirational thoughts, amusing ideas and rhymes. The five dollar booklet is a great stocking stuffer. To order please contact the WI office. “May you and your family enjoy a season rich in friendship and love and may you continue to bring joy, peace, and hope to others throughout the year ahead!” Carol MacLellan, President, PEIWI

My Christmas Wish For You My Christmas wish for you, my friend Is not a simple one For I wish you hope and joy and peace Days filled with warmth and sun
I wish you love and friendship too Throughout the coming year Lots of laughter and happiness To fill your world with cheer May you count your blessings, one by one And when totaled by the lot May you find all you've been given To be more than what you sought May your journeys be short, your burdens
light May your spirit never grow old May all your clouds have silver linings And your rainbows pots of gold I wish this all and so much more May all your dreams come true May you have a Merry Christmas friend And a happy New Year, too. (Cecilia Bailey)
WI Commitment to Neonatal Unit Complete
Carol MacLellan, President, Marie Kenny, Past President and QEH Nurse Manager, Kathy Larter are shown standing beside a new birthing bed valued at $20,000. This was part of the commitment to raise funds for the Neonatal Unit. The amount of $126,236.73 was recognized at the QEH Fall Friendship Dinner on October 5. The commitment was taken on during Marie’s term as President and completed during Carol’s term. Thank you for your support!

Be Prepared I am going to highlight a few of the many internet sites offering a wealth of information of Safety for Canadian Industries and Safety Conveners. You can read up on any safety issues you are concerned about, or learn about new threats to your safety you haven’t even considered yet. Canada Safety Council maintains a web site at safety-council.org with lots of good information including Safety Reminders for Back to School. Canada Safety Council’s online newsletter covers traffic safety, occupational and public safety, safety of children and seniors, new CSC initiatives and much more. December 1-7, 2010 is National Safe Driving Week. Be prepared for safe winter driving. This includes maintaining your vehicle, equipping it with necessary safety items and adjusting driv-ing habits consistent with weather conditions. Check out Road and Vehicle Safety for more information on this topic. The PEI Office of Public Safety includes the 911 Administration Office, Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) and the Fire Marshal’s office. Their goal is to ensure the support and information to both individuals and communities recovery in the event of an emergency. Information on Emergency Planning for yourself and your family is available. Kids Corner includes fun activities to help prepare for emergencies that could happen in PEI. You can get information from getprepared.gc.ca You can also arrange to have someone speak to your group about emergency preparedness. For more information email [email protected]; or call 894-0385. There is no charge for this service. PEI WI continues to be a partner of the PEI Partners for Community Safety who represents community organizations and government departments committed to working together to prevent crime and create suppor-tive environments where people feel safe and are safe. You can visit their website at communitysafetypei.ca. They have a very good list of related links pertaining to all aspects of community safety as well as resources. Safety.com calls itself the official safety site of the internet and offers articles related to all aspects of safety, from terrorism to Internet privacy to domestic violence. You can browse their database to check the list of topics you would like to know about. On another note the Bonshaw WI have compiled a Directory of Local Food Producers and Trades People and Services. Other branches or districts might want to follow their lead. It is a great way to make it easy for people to patronize local farmers and businesses. Wishing you a safe and healthy New Year. Carol Connick Convener of Canadian Industries and Safety

Canada Area Project
The amount of $10,842.58 was the total funding forwarded to the Area project, “Home Based
Care for Tsunami affected Dalit Children in
Napapattinam (India)”, sponsored by the Society of Daughters of Mary Immaculate (DMI). This amount far exceeded the $7000.00 which was originally committed by the Area. This project was a fantastic undertaking by Area Members. Thank you for your support. Margaret Yetman, Canada Area President
ACWW Funds
Pennies for Friendship is a voluntary fund which supports International Projects, UN links and networking, International Extension work, and the management of the core work of ACWW. As well, financial support is needed for other ACWW Funds, such as, Women Feed the World, Water for All, and General Projects. About 4000 collecting boxes were distributed at the conference in Arkansas. The box was designed by Alison Burnett, the organization’s treasurer, and is intended for individual members to help raise much needed additional contributions to ACWW Pennies for Friendship Fund. Any member wishing to obtain one of these boxes can do so by contacting the Central Office in London. ACWW is grateful for your financial support and asks you to continue with this support which will help the organization to carry out its work of helping women and their families worldwide.
Individual Memberships in ACWW
As a non-governmental organization, it is important that a large membership is maintained in order to re-tain their international status and ensure financial stability.
Canada Area Conference
The dates of July 8, 9, and 10, 2011 have been confirmed for the Canada Area Conference which will be held at the Mount Saint Vincent University in Bedford, NS. Hosting the conference is the Women’s Institutes of Nova Scotia and already the Planning Committee is putting plans into place for the event. You will be informed of more details when the information becomes available.
Message From World President “It is my wish and my pledge that we do all in
our power to achieve the core objectives of
ACWW which are to lift women and their fami-
lies out of poverty worldwide. So long as there
are those without shelter, without health care
and without access to education, ACWW has vi-
tal work to do. Only when that is achieved may
the world truly sing in perfect harmony.”
May Kidd,
ACWW World President
