Installing a ZebraDesigner Driver with Windows Vista In Vista, Start/Settings/Printers and Faxes is no longer an option. The easiest way to get to the printers list is to click the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen then select Control Panel...

...then Printers

Next click Add Printer

Unless the customer is looking to attach to an existing shared printer, choose Add a local printer

Note: For a USB connected printer. Vista completely takes over if it knows where to find a driver from any previous installs. This works very well if you plan to use one driver. It can make things very difficult however, if for example you have a ZUD version installed and need to use the ZebraDesigner driver instead. (See instructions for “Removing a ZebraDesigner Driver from Vista”) These instructions apply to both the ZebraDesigner driver and the ZUD).

Select the appropriate port. Existing ports can be selected from the drop down list.

Use Create new port if the connection is for an Ethernet address that does not yet exist. Select the Standard TCP/IP Port.

From the next screen you would typically choose TCP/IP Device then enter the IP address and click Next.

You can leave the default options for Standard Generic Network Card then click Next.

At this screen Have Disk... is the recommended choice so that you can maintain control over the exact location and version of the driver selected.

Click Browse to choose the directory where the driver is located.

With the v1.4.52 64bit Certified driver version from the ZD folder you can choose between Win32 and Win64.

Next select ZD.inf and click Open

Then click OK

Select the correct Zebra printer model then click Next

At this screen you can change the printer name that will appear in the Printers list or leave the existing name and click Next.

You can attempt to Print a test page or just click Finish. Important Note: Printing a test page is intended to prove the connection to the printer exists. The printer, particularly in the case of mobile printers, may not be able to print a portion of the 8 ½ x 11 Windows test page. Try creating and printing sample text using the correct label size from WordPad before making the determination that the driver install was not successful.
