Upgrade from V4R5M0 to V5R3M0 or later requires 2 steps using either V5R1M0 or V5R2M0 as an intermediate
Upgrade from V5R1M0 to V5R4M0 or later requires 2 steps using either V5R2M0 or V5R3M0 as an intermediate
If you need an intermediate release make sure you can get the CDs before your upgrade. Order it regardless !

– Before you can install V5R3, you must temporarily apply a PTF from the Software Agreement PTFs for V5R1 and V5R2
– SK3T-8163-00, CD-ROM to be able to accept online software agreements for V5R3 licensed programs.

profiles, change them now ( case sensitive)• Verify the compatibility of your licensed programs:

in Appendix E of the iSeries Software Installation Manual for installed status values
• If you have customized an IBM-supplied program ie. QSTRUP in QSYS in a previous release, make sure you re-create this program to run correctly in the new release

“Prepare for install” PTFs (SK3T-8163)
These PTFs are required for upgrades from V5R1*, V5R2 and V5R3 in order to accept software agreements for V5R4 licensed programs. CD is included with the order.
- V5R2 requires:- 5722999 – MF33218, MF36329 and MF36330- 5722SS1 – SI18930 (+ National language PTF)
- V5R3 requires:- 5722999 – MF33150, MF36276 and MF36280- 5722SS1 – SI14190 (+ National language PTF)
* V5R1 still requires upgrade to either V5R2 or V5R3 before proceeding with V5R4
