introduction

SFT 2801 - Installation - Use 3 141 951 A - D 3

descriptionThe SFT 2801 application is a software tool that may be used instead ofthe "TSM 2001 pocket terminal" under Windows™ 95, 98 and NT 4.0.

Furthermore, the SFT 2801 application provides additional functions forreading, printing and storage of Sepam 2000 parameters and forretrieving disturbance records.

It is installed on a PC connected to the front of Sepam 2000 via anadapter.

functionsAll the TSM 2001 pocket terminal functions are included in the SFT2801 application.

The functions used to read and set the various Sepam 2000 parameters(measurements, protections, etc.) in the software version of TSM 2001are similar to the pocket terminal functions (dialog via menus and sub-menus; cf manual ref. 3140750).

The following additional functions are made available by the softwareversion :

• general readout of Sepam 2000 characteristics.

• saving and restoring of all Sepam 2000 characteristics.

• printing of a report containing the values of all the Sepam 2000characteristics.

• retrieval of a disturbance record

• saving of a disturbance record

required set-up• The minimum set-up is given in the installation section.

ACE 900 connection kit

SFT 2801 - Installation - Use 3 141 951 A - D 4

kit contentsThe ACE 900 connection kit supplied with SFT 2801 is made up of :

• 1 Sepam - RS232 interface

• 1 PC - interface serial connection cord

connectionThe interface should be plugged into the inlet on the front of Sepam2000, behind the small flap door. The other end is connected to theCOM1 or COM2 communication port (whichever was selected at thetime of installation) on the PC.

interface should be plugged into the inlet

front of Sepam

It is mandatory for the ACE 900 connection kit supplied in SFT 2801kit to be used to connect the PC and Sepam 2000.

The use of any other cord is liable to cause Sepam 2000 operatingdifficulties.

designThe SFT 2801 application is materialized in Windows™ by a graphicalinterface (window) representing the TSM 2001 pocket terminal.

A B C D

A the title bar displays the name of the application: "SFT 2801"followed by identification of the Sepam when a Sepam is connectedto the PC.

B the menu bar gives access to the SFT 2801 special features

C the display field may be one of two types :• an SFT 2801 information screen• an TSM 2001 type screen, with four 20-character lines.

D control buttons which match the TSM 2001 pocket terminalkeyboard keys

display zoneThe software version display is the same as the TSM 2001 pocketterminal display: four 20-character lines. The same blinking also occurs. The cursor at the beginning of a line is indicated by a blinking ">"character.

SFT 2801 keyboardPressing a key on the SFT 2801 keyboard may be reproduced in twoways :

• using the mouse, by clicking on the corresponding button.

graphical interface

SFT 2801 - Installation - Use 3 141 951 A - D 6

• using the PC keyboard, by pressing the corresponding key. The keyis generally identified by the name which appears on the controlbutton on the SFT 2801 keyboard (cf Appendix 1).

behaviourThe SFT 2801 application complies with the usual MS-Windows rulesand operating procedures, which are not reminded here. In case ofnecessity, please refer to the manuals supplied with your computer.

Although the window is displayed, it remains inactive for 5 to 10seconds, during which time no action is possible. The application needsthis time to test the Sepam to obtain its identifier.

The window becomes active when the reading of Sepam identificationhas been completed : the title bar then displays the identifier of theSepam connected to the PC in addition to the application name. The"Identifying" message disappears from the display field, giving way tothe usual Sepam opening menu.

In this status, the user may use the software version of TSM 2001 inexactly the same way as the pocket terminal.

scanning SepamAs of the time that communication is initialized, SFT 2801 continuallyscans the link with the Sepam connected to the PC on which theapplication is running.

If the Sepam connection is down (connection cord damaged or Sepamdisconnected or not energized...), SFT 2801 detects interrupted dialogand displays :

The graphical interface is inactive until the user validates the messagewindow by clicking on the "OK" button. Communication must then beinitialized again.

reading characteristics

SFT 2801 - Installation - Use 3 141 951 A - D 12

descriptionThis function is a general readout of Sepam characteristics. It works byreading the following Sepam parameters :

• Sepam identification and software versions ("About Sepam" choice).

• Sepam settings ("Status" choice).

• Protection settings ("Protections" choice).

• Parameters ("Program logic" and "Parameters" choice).

• Timers ("Program logic" and "Timer") choice.

activateTo activate reading of all the characteristics, select the Charact. ThenRead item in the SFT 2801 menu bar.

The SFT 2801 graphical interface becomes inactive and the followingmessage is displayed :

The Sepam characteristics reading operation takes about 2 to 6minutes, depending on the Sepam configuration. The operation may beinterrupted at any time by clicking on the "Cancel" button or by pressingthe "Return" key on the PC keyboard.

When the operation is interrupted, the SFT 2801 window becomesactive again, the dialog between the PC and Sepam is reinitialized andthe Sepam opening menu appears again in the display field.

A dialog box is then displayed. This box is used to choose a name toidentify the characteristics that will be saved.

The name of the Sepam being examined is proposed (the name appearsin the title bar of the main screen and the characteristics displaywindow).

When several Sepams have the same name (as in the case of thestandard applicationsof the Sepam 2000 catalogue), it is necessary tomodify the proposed name to record and save the characteristics of theSepams which have the same name.

reading characteristics

SFT 2801 - Installation - Use 3 141 951 A - D 14

Once the user has confirmed the name to be used for the save, the textof the displayed characteristics is stored on the PC disk and may beretrieved for subsequent printing or saving operations.

If several storage operations are carried out for the same Sepam, onlythe most recent one is kept. The date of storage of the characteristicsis memorized.

The data structure used is a text file, the contents of which are an exactreplica of the text displayed in the display window (cf example inAppendix 2).

The name given for the stored data will appear on the first page of theprintout of characteristics under the heading "Sepam Name". The actualname of the Sepam application is given in the "Identification" section bythe text located under the name "SFT 2800".

print
