MOUNTING THE TARP SPOOL MOUNTING BRACKETS

1) Mount the two supplied TARP SPOOL MOUNTING BRACKETS (#2) on the exterior, and as far forward as possible, of the dump box. (See the pic-ture on left for an explanation). Drill the two mounting bracket holes 1-3/4” down from the top edge of the box.

2) Use the supplied 1/2" x 1” bolts (#13) & 1/2" nuts (#14) for attaching the TARP SPOOL MOUNTING BRACKET (#2). The RUBBER BUMPERS (#9) should face towards the rear of the truck.

MOUNTING THE MOTOR

1) Mount the US TARP SLIM MOTOR (#3) to the TARP SPOOL MOUNTING BRACKET on the driver’s side. Be sure to sandwich the CHROME MOTOR COVER PLATE (#4) between the US TARP SLIM MOTOR (#3) and the TARP SPOOL MOUNTING BRACKET (#2) as shown above. Use the three sup-plied 5/16” x 3/4" grade 5 bolts (#17) for mounting the US Tarp Motor.

2) DO NOT INSTALL THE CROME COVER AT THIS TIME.

INSTALLING THE TARP AXLE

1) Measure the distance between the two TARP SPOOL MOUNTING BRACKETS (#2). Verify that the TARP AXLE (#7) is 1-inch shorter than this length. If the TARP AXLE (#7) is too long, cut it to the correct length then redrill a 5/16” hole ½” from the end.

2) Slide the Spool Shaft (#8) into the TARP AXLE (#7) and secure with a 5/16” x 2-1/4” bolt (#12) & 5/16” nut (#11).

3) Slide the TARP AXLE (#7) into the US TARP SLIM MOTOR (#3) shaft and secure with a 5/16” x 2-1/4”

bolt (#12) & 5/16” nut (#11). 4) Install the AXLE BEARING WITH FLANGE (#6) to the

Outside of the TARP SPOOL MOUNTING BRACKET (#2) on the passenger side of the truck. Use the two supplied 5/16” x 7/8” bolts (#10) & 5/16” nuts (#11) for mounting.

INSTALLING THE WIND DEFLECTOR

1) Install the optional WIND DEFLECTOR (#1) by first verify that the length is correct to fit between the two TARP SPOOL MOUNTING BRACKETS (#2). If the WIND DEFLECTOR (#1) is too long, cut it to the correct length.

2) Attach the WIND DEFLECTOR (#1) to the TARP SPOOL MOUNTING BRACKETS (#2) using the six supplied 5/16-18x1-1/4 Zinc Indent Hx Wash SlotT-23 Thread Cutting Screw (#18).

Wiring The Motor & Rotary Switch 1) Run the DUAL CONDUCTOR WIRE from the US Tarp MOTOR (#3) down the front of the dump box, along the bottom of the box, around the hinge,

and along the frame rail to the SWITCH BRACKET inside the cab.

***Be sure to not bind or pinch the wire.***

2) Run another section piece of the DUAL CONDUCTOR WIRE from the Battery to the SWITCH BRACKET.

3) Connect the DUAL CONDUCTOR WIRE as shown above to the US Tarp Motor, Switch, circuit breakers, and battery.

4) Mount the supplied SWITCH BRACKET inside the cab using the two mounting holes and the necessary screws or bolts (these are not provided). 5) After connecting all wires, check to see that when the switch is turned to wind-up the tarp the TARP AXLE (#7) turns counter-clockwise when viewing

it from the driver’s side of the truck. If not, switch the two wires on the US TARP MOTOR (#3).

6) After testing the Electrical to make sure it is wired correctly, attach the CHROME MOTOR COVER (#5) to the MOTOR COVER PLATE (#4) using the seven supplied #10 screw and rubber grommets (#16).

Upgrade your System US Tarp offers many options to upgrade or optimize your tarp

system. Switching to the US TARP EZ SWITCH allows the operator the ease of a rocker switch along with the system

preserving EZ RELAY. The Newest addition to our Universal Tarp Motor family is the

Heavy Duty 90:1 Tarp Motor. Rated for Tarpaulins up to 42’ feet in length. This is one of the strongest motors in the indus-try.

Mounting your US Tarp System FINDING THE PIVOT POINT

1) This is done best using two tape measures. It is possible to use only one tape measure, but will take some additional time. 2) Have one person use a tape measure to measure distance from the TARP AXLE to an approximate PIVOT POINT location on the side rail. 3) Have a second person use another tape measure to measure the distance from the FRONT EDGE OF THE TAILGATE to the same approximate PIVOT

POINT. 4) The actual PIVOT POINT is where the two tape measures cross and the measurements are equal. Mark the place where this happens.

MOUNTING THE PIVOT PIN 1) Hold the PIVOT PIN (#1) centered over the mark created and mark the two mounting holes for drilling. 2) Mount the PIVOT PIN (#1) with the groove facing down and use the supplied with a 5/8” x 1-1/2” bolt (#10), washer (#11) & nut (#10) to attach to the

truck. 3) Attach the other PIVOT PIN (#1) in the same location on the other side of the dump box.

ATTACHING THE LOWER ARMS 1) Insert one STAINLESS STEEL BUSHING (#8) on to the PIVOT PIN (#1). 2) With the LOWER STEEL ARM (#2) pointing to the rear of the dump box, slide the LOWER STEEL ARM (#2) on to the PIVOT PIN (#1) with TORSION SPRINGS

(#3) in the center. Make sure the long leg of each TORSION SPRING (#3) is above the pin on the LOWER STEEL ARM (#2) and that each TORSION SPRING (#3) points to the rear of the dump box.

3) Insert one STAINLESS STEEL BUSHING (#8) on the outside of the LOWER STEEL ARM (#2) and attach the RETAINING RING (#9) to the groove in the PIVOT PIN (#1).

4) Attach the other LOWER STEEL ARM (#2) using the same method to the other side of the dump box. ATTACHING THE SIDE ARMS OPTIONAL STEP – If the optional 30 degree or 45 degree OFFSET ELBOWS are used, cut the arms where the cab shield meets the dump body and attach the OFFSET ELBOWS to the arm with the included 5/16 x 2 1/4”” Bolts and Nuts.

1) Attach each 90 DEGREE CORNER (#5) to each SIDE ARM (#4) by drilling a hole and using the supplied 5/16” x 2-1/4” bolts (# 13) and Nuts (#14). 2) Attach the RUBBER TARP CENTERING FLANGE over the free end of the 90 DEGREE CORNER. 3) Slide ONE of the SIDE ARMS (#4) into one of the LOWER STEEL ARMS (#2) and lay it on the ground. DO NOT bolt the UPPER ARM (#4) and the LOWER

STEEL ARMS (#2) together yet. 4) Swing the TARP ARM assembly from the ground to the top edge of the rear of the dump box. The 90 DEGREE CORNER should rest on the top/front of the

tail gate. If it is too long remove the side arm assembly and cut off excess from lower end of upper side arm. Use that same measurement for the oppo-site side

5) Slide the SIDE ARMS back into the LOWER STEEL ARMS let each side lay on the ground at the rear of the truck. 6) Slide the CROSS TUBE into the TARP POCKET. 7) Slide the CROSS TUBE into the 90 DEGREE CORNERS with the CROSS TUBE on the ground behind the truck. Verify measurement for width if this CROSS

TUBE. You can adjust the width at this time by cutting off excess the excess. Use the supplied 5/16” x 2-1/4” bolts (# 13) and Nuts (#14) to attach the TARP BOW to the 90 DEGREE CORNERS by drilling a 5/16" thru hole for the bolts.

8) Lift the assembly to rest on top of the tail gate. Make sure that it is square to the position on the truck and attach the SIDE ARMS to the LOWER STEEL ARMS (#2) using the supplied 5/16” x 2-1/4” bolts (# 13) and Nuts (#14). Use the guide holes in the lower pivot arms and drill thru holes for bolts.

Attaching the Tarpaulin

Bring the free end of the TARP to the front of the truck. to attach the Tarp to the TARP AXLE (#7):

1) Tarps with Grommets on the front edge can also be mounted by sliding the 1/4-20 x 3/4" Zinc Plated Carriage Bolt in the correct slot and then screw to-gether using 1/4" x 1" Zinc Plated Fender Washer 1/4" Nylock Nut (#15)

before attaching the end caps Final Steps Operate the tarping system and adjust the position of the PLASTIC TARP CENTERING FLANGES (#14) on the CROSS TUBE (#6) so that the CROSS TUBE (#6) does not rest on the top edge of the box. Also, make sure the PLASTIC TARP CENTERING FLANGES (#14) hit the rubber bumpers on the spool. (Optional Heavy duty Tarp Axle see Top Left Picture; Hollow 103” Tarp Axle see Bottom Left Picture)
