IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT: An un-switched AC power source of 120VAC to 277VAC is required for the yellow/black and white leads.

IMPORTANT: A switched or un-switched AC power source of 120VAC to 277VAC is acceptable for the black lead only.

NOTE: This EM driver is listed for dry and damp locations. When the driver is located in a deep canopy, the fixture may only be used dry and damp locations. If the EM driver is located remotely, it must be in a dry or damp location, but the fixture itself may be wet location.

NOTE: For EM drivers located remotely from the fixture, check for labels on both the remote driver enclosure and the fixture identifying them as a matched pair. Do not use the EM driver with any other fixture type.

CAUTION: Make sure all electrical connections conform to the National Electrical Code and all applicable local regulations.

CAUTION: Do not use this emergency driver with accessory equipment other than recommended by manufacturer; failure to follow this may cause an unsafe condition. Servicing should only be performed by qualified service personnel.

CAUTION: Do not use this emergency driver for other than intended use.

CAUTION: Battery is rechargeable LiFePO4 type and must be recycled or disposed of properly.

CAUTION: Equipment should be mounted in locations and at heights where it will not readily be subjected to tampering by unauthorized personnel.

CAUTION: Do not mount near gas or electric heaters.

CAUTION: Not suitable for high-risk task area lighting.

WARNING: AC power must be off before installation or servicing of emergency driver. Additionally ensure that the battery is disconnected (Battery Switch set to OFF).

NEVER connect LED or LED fixture to LED driver while energized, this may result in damage to the LED. Damage due to incorrect connections can be detected at the factory and is not covered under warranty.

TESTING SYSTEM: The emergency battery requires a minimum charge time of one (1) hour before testing the circuit. A minimum of twelve (12) hours is required for a full charge.

RATED EMERGENCY OPERATION: 90 minutes with a 10W output or 80 minutes with a 5W load. The 10W or 5W option is determined by the position of DIP Switch 1 (Emergency Power Level Switch). The factory default is 90 minutes with a 10W output.

CALCULATING EMERGENCY ILLUMINATION LEVEL

The theoretical illumination level along the path of egress during emergency operation is determined by four parameters: 1) LED efficacy, 2) luminaire mounting height, 3) luminaire optics, and 4) emergency power level setting on the EM driver.

Step 1: Obtain the required data for the luminaire: • LED Efficacy (lumens per watt) for the chosen LED (typically page 2 of the data sheet) • LOR (Light Output Ratio) for the chosen reflector (typically page 3 of the data sheet) • IES file (from the v2 website)

Step 2: Determine the Emergency Output Power Level

The v2 EM LED Driver has two emergency output levels: 5W and 10W. Setting the proper Emergency Output Power Level is vital to achieve desired illumination.

12

OFFON DIP Switch Settings

#1 Emergency Output Level: OFF=5W, ON=10W #2 Self Diagnostic: OFF=Off, ON=On

Step 3: Calculate the Emergency Light Output in lumens.

Emergency Light Output = Emergency Power Output Level x LED Efficacy x LOR

Example: 2 EM LED Driver is set to 5W emergency output Luminaire efficacy = 120lm/W LOR = 87% Emergency Light Output = 5W x 120lm/W x .87 = 522 lumens

Step 4: Use the Emergency Light Output (in lumens) to scale the output for the IES file in any industry lighting design software to calculate the illumination level according to the luminaire layout and mounting height, the original IES file and Emergency Light Output calculated above.

Example: If the IES file is for 1,300 lm, and the emergency output is 522 lumens, then the scaling factor to applied to the IES file for emergency level calculations is 522 ÷ 1300 = 0.4

If the illumination level does not meet life safety codes, consider the following options: • go back to Step 2 to use a higher Emergency Output Power Level • go back to Step1 to select a different reflector / lens and/or a higher efficacy LED • modify the quantity and/or location of the luminaires in the room

It is the specifier / installer’s responsibility to validate the real illumination level on site to assure it meets Federal, state and local codes. It may differ from the theoretical calculation or simulation on a computer.

MAXIMUM MOUNTING HEIGHTS

The following charts show the maximum mounting height (from floor to bottom of fixture) for a single fixture that allows a minimum of 1.1 foot-candle at floor level, center beam, while operating in the 5W emergency mode. For the fixtures shown below it assumes the worst case scenario with the lowest LED Efficacy.

The YELLOW / BLACK lead requires an un-switched AC power source. If there is no line voltage present on the YELLOW / BLACK wire the driver will switch to Emergency Mode.

The BLACK lead may be switched or un-switched:

1. If switched, the fixture may be turned off by the switch on the black line, or by setting the 0-10V control to 0V, as the driver will dim to 0% (off).

2. If un-switched, connecting the BLACK lead to the YELLOW/BLACK will allow for fixture output control via the 0-10V dimming wires only. The driver will dim to 0% (off).

3. If un-switched, leaving the BLACK lead disconnected will result in the fixture only working in Emergency Mode.

The device must be grounded via the green ground screw located in the AC wiring compartment.

NOTE: After all wiring and installation is complete, set the Battery Switch to the ON position.

LED Wiring:

WARNING • Polarity is critical. Reversing the polarity may damage to the LED or the driver. • Never connect LED to LED driver while energized. This may damage to the LED. • Damage due to incorrect connections can be detected at the factory and is not covered under warranty.

1) V– : Black or blue wire from the fixture to the black wire from the LED driver output. 2) V+ : Red wire from the fixture to the red wire from the LED driver output.

Dimming Wiring: Use of the 0-10V dimming leads is optional. If unused, cap each wire off separately, do NOT connect them together or to anything else.

Test Switch Wiring: If the EM Driver is located in the fixture’s canopy, the test switch is connected via the small black connector.

When located remotely, the black connectors may be removed, discarded, and the test switch wiring may be extended up to a maximum of 20 feet. Maintaining polarity is important.

NOTE: After all wiring and installation is complete, set the Battery Switch to the ON position.
