Install Instructions for Metal Roof

These instructions will guide you through the installation of a basic Redilight Solar Powered Lighting System on a metal roof. Ensure you have all necessary components and tools before beginning. Use great care while working on a roof and wear fall protection if required.

Helpful Tips For Mounting Solar Panel

• Mount the solar panel facing the sun (Southerly aspect in North America)

• Avoid mounting the panel in areas that are shaded or receive partial shade

Connecting Wire to Solar Panel

Remove the two screws to the cover on the back of the solar panel and swing open.

Take out the bag with spade terminals and remove the terminal cover.

Remove about 2” of the thick outer insulation from wire.

Redilight kits typically come with the wire already attached to the solar panel. If the wire is already attached, skip to the section “Mounting Solar Panel To Roof”

Crimp the female spade terminals on the end of the wires.

Strip 1/4” of insulation from both the red and black wires

Insert wire through gland nut and into terminal box.

Attach the wires to the corresponding terminals in the panel box.

Tighten the gland nut to create a waterproof connection.

Replace the terminal cover, close the lid and reinstall cover screws.

Push wire through gasket and into hole in roof. Liberally apply roof sealant in and around the hole and under edge of gasket. Screw down using phillips screws if desired.

Set solar panel on to brackets. Using the self drilling screws, attach the panel to the brackets. Be very careful not to drill in to the solar panel glass.

Drill a 5/16” hole for the wire to be inserted in the roof.

Lay the solar panel on the brackets to obtain the measurement for the upper brackets and then secure them as in step 1.

Using pre-existing roofing screws if possible, screw down two of the brackets level with each other. Generously apply roof sealant underneath the brackets and space the outside edges no more than 20” apart.

Installing Driver and Light Fixture

Strip 1/4” off of the loose end of the wire attached to the solar panel..

Install the red wire into a (+) driver slot and the black wire in a (-) driver slot. Using a small flat screwdriver, tighten screw down on wires.

Using the template on top of the light fixture box, cut a hole for the light.

If using a surface mount light, drill a 1/2” hole for the plug to pass through, then attach the light to the ceiling using included hardware.

Bend back the spring tabs on the light fixture and allow them to clamp in to ceiling.

Enjoy your Redilight! Run the wire from the light fixture up through the hole in the ceiling and plug in to the driver.
