Los integrantes del grupo Axolotl, Santiago Doljanin

(Argentina), Jordi Espuny (España), Karla Rodríguez

(México), Sofía Scheps (Uruguay) y Albert Tarrats

(España), se conocieron en el marco del Máster en

Arte Sonoro de la Universidad de Barcelona.

Este conjunto heterogéneo, proveniente de ámbitos

muy diversos, converge en la necesidad de satisfacer

su curiosidad por buscar nuevas aproximaciones a la

creación y a la experiencia sonora.

En Music On A Long Thin Wire (1977) de Alvin Lucier, un alambre es tensado entre dos puentes. Sus extremos se conectan a la salida de un oscilador amplificado produciendo un bucle de corriente eléctrica. El campo magnético del imán interactúa con esta corriente aumentado la vibración del alambre. Micrófonos de contacto en los puentes recogen esta vibración, que es reproducida en altavoces.

Mailbox Music (Música de Cocodrilos) propone una variante unplugged, prescindiendo de la amplificación eléctrica.Puentes metálicos actúan como resonadores y filtros acústicos, invitando a una escucha cercana e íntima.

In Music On A Long Thin Wire (Alvin Lucier, 1977), a wire is tightened between two bridges.Both ends are connected to the output of an amplified oscillator producing a loop of electric current. The magnetic field of a magnet interacts with this current, amplifying the vibration of the wire. Contact microphones on the bridges pick up this vibration, which is reproduced by loudspeakers.

Mailbox Music (Música de Cocodrilos) proposes an unplugged alternative, dispensing the electric amplification.Metal bridges act as resonators and acoustic filters, inviting to listen close and intimately.

ABOUT THE INSTALL ATION

Mailbox Music se compone de dos estructuras metálicas simétricas. Cada estructura consta de un resonador metálico con base de madera, un soporte para un imán potente, y una caja de madera rellena de arena, a modo de contrapeso.

Entre estas dos estructuras se extiende un alambre metálico largo (la pieza de ha realizado con un cable de siete metros, pero puede adaptarse a los requerimientos del espacio). En cada extremo del alambre, se ubica un conector pinza de cocodrilo.

Estos conectores van a un amplificador de señal. El sistema requiere de corriente eléctrica, y resistencias potentes para evitar su sobrecalentamiento.

COMPONENTES DE L A INSTAL ACIÓN

Mailbox Music is composed of two symmetrical metal structures. Each structure consists of a metal resonator with a wooden base, a support for a powerful magnet, and a wooden box filled with sand, as a counterweight.

Between these two structures extends a long metallic wire (the piece has been made with a cable of seven meters, but can adapt to the requirements of the exhibition space). At each end of the wire, a crocodile clip connector is placed.

These connectors go to a signal amplifier. The system requires electric current, and strong resistors to avoid overheating.

Festival Zeppelin 2016 · CCCB · Barcelona

La instalación Mailbox Music se ha presentado en el Festival de Músicas Electroacústicas y Arte Sonoro Zeppelin (Barcelona, CCCB 2016), y en el Festival Mixture (Barcelona, Fabra i Coats, 2017).

Para ambos festivales, la instalación fue calibrada, y se compusieron piezas de quince minutos, con sonidos sintéticos, para ser reproducidas por el sistema, en bucle.

TR AYECTORIA

The installation Mailbox Music has been presented at the Festival of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art Zeppelin (Barcelona, CCCB 2016), and at the Festival Mixture (Barcelona, Fabra i Coats, 2017).

For both festivals, the installation was calibrated, and three pieces of fifteen minutes were composed with synthetic sounds, to be reproduced by the system, in loop.
