    2015/16 in Review

  • Junior Achievement’s success is built around the incredible kindness and generosity of the community around us and we would not be where we are today without your support. Thanks to you, JA Northern Alberta and NWT continues to flourish and impact thousands of students each year.

The 2015/16 school year was no exception with approximately 25,000 students inspired by a JA program. We had incredible growth in regional program delivery and we also saw our Company Program increase by about 100 students.

Delivered free of charge by over 550 passionate volunteers, our programs educate youth about work readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. The expertise and experience our volunteers bring into the classroom are what make JA so powerful as students have the opportunity to learn firsthand from experts in the field. Our dedicated volunteers arm youth with the skills they need to succeed in the future, no matter what path they might choose.

In addition to our volunteers, youth are further inspired by the remarkable group of laureates in our Alberta Business Hall of Fame. Thanks to the leadership of Mr. Harold Roozen and in partnership with Manulife Place, we unveiled the Alberta Business Hall of Fame Wall of Honour this year to pay tribute to past, present and future laureates. Located on the second floor of Manulife Place, the Wall of Honour is a wonderful reminder of the rich business history in our city and province.

In May, we had the honour of inducting four amazing business leaders into the Alberta Business Hall of Fame: Chief Victor Buffalo, Tony Franceschini, G. Donald Love and Jerry Naqvi. These individuals have had an incredible impact on the business community and their stories

moved all in attendance at our annual gala.

Inspiration surrounds Junior Achievement at all levels: students, volunteers, donors, laureates and community stakeholders. As we look to the future, we know this impact will only grow and we hope that you will continue to be a part of it. Looking at the students who go through our programs and those helping to guide the way, I know our future is in good hands. With your continued support, we are excited for what the future holds and to continue to increase our reach. From all of us at JA, thank you for giving your time, talent and treasure to inspire our youth to succeed in a global economy.

    Thank you!

    Best,

    Jen Panteluk

This year, our Company Program grew by approximately 100 students and was made up of 25 businesses. Our Achievers worked hard to start a business, manufacture and sell products, and liquidate during the 18-week program.

Social entrepreneurship remained a key component, where companies gave hours and monetary values to charities. Over $5,000 was donated to local organizations, including the Bissel Centre, Ronald McDonald House Nothern Alberta, Alberta Wilderness Association, CASA Foundation, and the Red Cross in support of the Fort McMurray fires.

At our 2016 Company Program Awards Night, over $26,000 in scholarships and trips were awarded to some of our top Achievers. Congratulations again to the recipients and to all of our Achievers on their hard work and dedication.

Our VolunteersThank you to all our 2015/2016 volunteers. It is no small feat to head back into the classroom to lead our youth to be the successful leaders of tomorrow. We could not have achieved a student reach of approximately 25,000 students without the hard work of our dedicated volunteers.

In the 2015/2016 year, over 550 volunteers helped JA spread our message of financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship throughout Northern Alberta.

We are blessed to be able to celebrate this accomplishment and the incredible support we have received from the community.

JA gives me the opportunity to talk to kids about how they can set themselves up for success. It’s incredibly inspiring
