Community Living Renfrew County South was honoured to host the major photographic exhibition of over 60 photos of people across Ontario supported by Community Living agencies. The exhibition illustrates how people with an intellectual disability are leading full lives in the community through work, play, leisure, home life and volunteering. Each photo is a testimony to how these extraordinary people and Community Living are inspiring possibilities. PhotoSensitive is a not-for-profit collective of professional photographers who donate their time and talents to using the power of photography to bring about social change and awareness. Community Living Renfrew County South would like to express their sincere thanks to Fred Chartrand who not only made several trips to Renfrew to take photos but continues to stay connected to us and the individuals we support through his photography and friendship. Wow! What an awesome time we had on Friday, July 10,2009!! Beth Van Dusen (pictured in the sailboat), GillesJodoin and Doris Pierce went to the Nepean Sailing Cluband tried their hands at sailing!! There were two sailboatsto choose from and three volunteers there to help theminto the boat. Doris used the sling to get down into theboat while Gilles and Beth stepped down into the boat ontheir own. The sun was shining and the wind was blowingthat day which were perfect conditions for a sail aroundthe harbour. Dick Bell Park is extremely wheelchairaccessible, which makes it so much easier for some of usto get around there.

We look forward to several more Fridays spenthappily sailing or enjoying our picnic lunch and watchingthe world go by. What a day!!

On Tuesday, July 14, 2009 we went to theNepean Sailing Club.

There were lots of apartment buildingsin Ottawa that we could see across the river.

I went for a bouncy, bumpy ride in asailboat. There were lots of waves and it waswindy. Julia was the volunteer who helped mesail.

We had a picnic lunch. I had fun andI’d like to go there again!

As camp leaders for the 2009Youth Summer Program wewould like to extend oursincerest best wishes and asafe summer to all on behalfof the members of the daycamp.

Despite such a rainystart to summer, we havemade the best of it throughtrips to museums and zoos, anarcade and the BonnechereCaves. And that’s just to start!

We have been working on many summer long projects, one of which includes a memory box. We have beenfilling these up with precious memories. Some of these memories are represented with pins, granite rocks, sponge insects, many pictures, ceramic paintings, and ticket stubs. We have the pleasure of working withseven teenagers this summer, and have engaged them in many activities, sports and community events. Someof these which will occur in the near future are: the ‘go bananas’ festival, the Beachburg Fair, a trip to the firestation, a presentation from a police officer, a trip to Logos Land and much more. The picture seen here, wastaken at the Museum of Civilization, one of the many trips we have taken so far. This picture includesmembers and leaders of the Youth Camp, standing amidst a dragon; one of the many mythical beasts we got tosee that day.

From both of us, a wonderful summer to all.

Cindy Mohns passed away at theArnprior Hospital on July 5,2009. Cindy had been a part ofCommunity Living day supportsfor many years. Here are someways in which her friends inArnprior remember her; Cindyloved to go to the restaurant fortea and lunch, she enjoyedfolding laundry and being

helpful, she was really good at being the banker in the"Money Game", she always played cards with Helenand won! She was generous with her things and withher compliments, "You are so beautiful" was a commentshe would often give to her friends. She was a goodfriend and would invite you to her place for a party andwould remember your name and your birthday even ifyou only told her once. Cindy loved her family andwould regularly share with her friends all about whatthey were up to. Cindy's friends remember her nicesmile, her sense of humour, and that she was pleasant tobe around. We are thankful for the memories that eachof us will keep of Cindy and grateful to her for the wayin which she showed us how to be a friend to oneanother.
