Business You need to invent ideas of process, tools, funds or programs

for the business relationship between the local community and

the Bel Ya’ Social Business. Invent ways for the Bel ya’ and the

local community to be scalable. For this your ideas need to

address those key questions :

-How to insert informal communities into taxation system ?

- How to back up variations in the amount of production and sales?

- Which production organization for the women to allow

flexibility in the production ? ( constraint : it’s not their

fulltime Job )

You need to invent ideas of process, tools, funds, programs for the

collaboration between the local community and the Bel Ya’ Social

Business to have a real positive impact on the communities. Here

are the different impacts that Bel Ya’ wants to achieve :

- preserving the identity of the community

- develop the voice of the wormen in the community

- make people in the community autonomous ( ser informado para tomar buenas decisiones por su vida / increcimiento de su nivel economico )

Impacto

Community vision 1st.the product or activity you will bring to the community to generate revenues comes only after the community has agreed on a common mission and vision on how to improve their life/environment and which are the social links to improve. The product activity comes to serve that mission. GK does workshop in the villages during a month until they are sure they have opened up the discussion with all and engaged in a community vision

Good Business = Good productivity + Accounting

keep it simple and short but track (productivity and margin control are keys for the success or failure of a social business) . I guess that informal communities still have some kind of accountability system (even though its not excel). they have their own way, try to copy that?

Inspiration 4 : Fundacion espave

leila traveled in colombia to meet fundacion espavecontact her on facebook or via email [email protected]

From my experience with espave in colombia : good business relationships come from transparency from the social entrepreneur. even on topics you think are not relevant to them : like who are your investors, who is the team, which are your objectives in 5 years, what you split the money.

Good business partnerships comes w/ transparency + trainings

Also espave would ensure a series of trainings of the farmers to guarantee the quality and understanding of the product. and trainings were done by peers when some of them were trained enough

Inspiration 5 : Amrit A cooperative + a fund for people not to feel excluded. It is an excellent initiative to diversify income sources of local informal communities, increase their livelihood opportunities and provide them with access to formal markets. However, it also has the potential to disrupt the social cohesion in these communites assuming not all members in the community will be engaged in producing the high-end fashion products. While this would benefit some it would also increase income disparities among them. In order to address this challenge and to institute a viable collaborative model I suggest forming a cooperative and induce all members of the community to become members of this cooperative. All business transactions then should be routed through the cooperative such as payments to artisans, weavers, etc. This would also help address the problem of billing etc. as the cooperative would be a separate legal entity other than the individual members. The cooperative should also set up a "Community Development Fund" and 15-20% of all remuneration received could go towards this fund that is used for providing infrastructure in primary and secondary schools, primary health centers, sewage and sanitation facilities, household water pipe connections and alternative environment friendly energy sources. This way there will be an equitable development for all and no one will feel excluded even if they do not actively participate in the project, keeping the social fabric of the community intact.
