Technological progress through microprocessors In the early 1970s, the first microprocessors were develo-ped. We recognise the trend early on, and the new tech-nology is finding its way into our products within just a few years. The control by microcomputer is quickly becoming the new standard.

A development order German Railways lays the foundation for establishing the business division by searching for a provider of a new ge-neration of ticket vending machines – the project “Moder-nised Ticket Sales”. After an exciting application phase we finally receive the order to develop a new type of vending machine.

Dear readers,

40 years of Fare collection systems by Scheidt & Bachmann – these have been 40 years of progress and growth, during these years we‘ve developed from a ticket machine manufacturer to a global system provider. This success would be unima-ginable without masterminds – from Scheidt & Bachmann as well as our customers. Together we have implemented countless successful projects. Therefore I sincerely extend my gratitude to you.

We do not rest on the laurels of past successes – quite the contrary: our claim is to establish new developments in the future which optimally support your business in the dynamic market of mobility services.

With our account-based ticketing solutions we shape the mobility of tomorrow – initial systems are already in operation and show the great potential of account-based ticketing for our customers. This cloud technology is also core of our new service-centred business models like Ticketing as a Service, with whom we realise trendsetting mobility concepts for you.

Thus we are confident to say: we will attend you beyond the next decades as a reliable partner and provide you with innovative solutions for your individual ticketing demands and I look forward to this.

Yours

Matthias Augustyniak, Managing Director

The ticket vending machine – a true innovation Within our first project “Modernised Ticket Sales” , we develop a state-of-the-art, microprocessor-controlled ticket vending machine – a true innovation. The approval by German Railways and the subsequent installation and commissioning of 280 devices on October 1st, 1978 form the basis for the establishment of a fourth business division: “Fare collection systems”.

Ski lift tickets – our first ticket system Our very first ticket vending machine is being created for ski lift tickets. The ski lift ticket system for Steibis in the Allgäu, Germany, is our first comprehensive management system to sell transport services – though not yet for public transport.

Founding: Fare collection systems Along the founding of the Fare collection systems division we develop a comprehensive portfolio supplementing the first product, the microprocessor-controlled ticket ven-ding machine. The new Fare collection systems products complete our already existing Parking and access systems, Signalling systems and Fuel retail solutions.

The very first European patent When developing the first ticket vending machine we mas-ter numerous challenges. In order to e.g. prevent money laundering, it has to be ensured that only the inserted coins are returned when the sales transaction is cancelled. This function is provided by the temporary coin storage, for which we receive the first European patent ever granted on January 9th, 1980.

Central data collection and accounting with DAZ-12 In buses ticket printers record sales data on removable media. DAZ-12 collects this data and performs the com-prehensive accounting. Besides driver-related accounting time-related accountings for days, months or years are pos-sible. Thereby DAZ-12 is the “grandfather” of today’s sales accounting and operational management system.

/ 1989Our first subsidiary We take over shares of Verkehrselektronik GmbH in Gera, Germany. A year later the company becomes a full subsi- diary and receives a new production site in Burkersdorf. Today the subsidiary is known as Scheidt & Bachmann Service GmbH.

/ 1984 The first matrix printer As our in-house production depth increases, we develop a matrix printer that is implemented in our ticket vending machines. The innovative print engine is able to process up to five different ticket forms with various mea- surements and paper thicknesses.
