While we at
Encore work tirelessly to care for loved
ones living with Alzhei-mer's, there are many who work tirelessly to find
a cure for Alzheimer’s, an irreversible progressive
brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and
thinking skills and is currently ranked
as the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Consider
joining our team for the next walk and help the world get one step closer to
our vision: “ ... a world
without Alzheimer’s.”
Walk to End Alzheimer’s
The weather could not have
been better for the dedicated crowd at the Walk to End
Alzheimer's this year! The sunny day with deep blue skies contrib-
uted to the festive atmos-phere as
people from all over our coun-
ty gathered to support the goal of contributing to the Alzheimer's
Association, which advances research to end Alzheimer’s and dementia while en-
hancing care for those living with the disease.
Our Encore team gave their heart & soul (& soles) to this effort, working for many
months before the event with fund-raisers, tie-dye parties (note the colorful team attire) and many other activities to

3. Stay socially connected. There is no
doubt about it—the “friend effect” works, although no one really knows how. Having a strong social network dramati-cally boosts longevity!
4. Be conscientious. Children followed in a study beginning in 1921 through to their old age who were “prudent, persistent and planful” went on to live the longest. When study participants found meaning in sometimes stressful jobs, they thrived—proving that some stress is not a bad thing.
5. Be as fit as you can. You can tip the scales in your favor by increasing your physical activity. Any little bit helps. Go-ing from inactive to slightly active has as strong an impact as exercising itself.
Research must be a fascinating career! Name it and they’ve examined it from every angle to figure it out. Now they’re looking at the lives of centenarians to unlock key traits that may help us to live longer better. Here’s what they’ve come up with so far:
1. Be thankful you live in the 21st century—the advantages offered people in developed countries has increased the chance of liv-ing to 100 by 1004%!
2. Have good genes. If your grandparents hit the 100 mark, you have a 20-fold chance of getting there as well. If not, study of these “super-agers” could trans-late into health practices that help all of us live longer, healthier lives.
