July 4th Barbecue Lion Tony Licata and his wife Linda would like to host an evening of July 4 Barbecue Potluck at their home in North Vancouver for Lions members and their guests. The backyard in their new home has a lovely

southerly view of fireworks launching on the Columbia River which they would like to share. The party would start at 6:30 PM and continue through the fireworks. Tony and Linda will take care of the grilling meats and soft drinks. Guests will need to bring lawn chairs and a side, salad, or dessert. Guests may also bring wine and or beer to share if they desire. If you would like to attend, please let Lion Tony know the number of people to expect from your party to:

Year End Celebration What a year it has been!! Our end of the year celebration was a great success too. Although it was hotter than dick-ens, we had great food, and wonderful fellowship at a beautiful location. Thank you Lions Doug and Tracy for allowing us to use the hanger again at the Pierson Air Museum. If you have never visited the museum make sure to get down this summer some time. During our celebration I handed out 100% attendance pins to many lions. I also thanked the board that served with me last year with a lions coffee mug. I can’t thank them enough for the commitment and dedication to our club in assuring we serve our communities. I also presented Lion Martha Johnson with the “rookie of the Year” award. As I mentioned that night Martha jumped in with both feet when she became a lion. She has backed, sewed, orga-nized, and assisted with many activities. I jokingly said I don’t think she knows the word “No”. The one thing that impressed me with Martha was her eagerness in taking on the Santa Store. That is a big job but Martha was able to pull it off without a hitch. Thank you Martha, you are a wonderful addition to our club. Then finally I awarded “Lion of the Year” to Len Leger. There are so many things I could say about Len but let me touch on a few. Len is the most kind, gentle, respectful person I know. He came to each and every board meeting with great ideas. He didn’t hesitate to voice his opinions but did so in a respectful manner. He participated in many service projects and did a great job in coordinating our social events. The one thing that I wanted to make sure Len was recognized for was his great idea of the “Century Club” awards for our members who between the years of ser-vice and their age totaled 100. We are not sure yet but we might be the first club to recognize those members and if isn’t was for Len we would not have that honor. It’s an honor for me to say that Len is my friend and I thank him for all he does for our club. Finally I want to thank the entire club for the privilege of being your leader for the past year. It was a great experience and who knows I might take it on again in the future. We are a great organization and I am proud to be a member of Fort Vancouver Lions Club. King Lion Sandy Hammond

Strawberry/Cherry Sales 2015 On Saturday June 13th 10 Lion’s got up early and drove to “Columbia Fruit” in Woodland Washington, to load their trucks by 8:00am. Off to our 6 locations where 28 lions distributed 470 pails of fruit as cus-tomers came to pick up their orders. This was completed in 2 hours from 10am until noon. This was our first fruit sale for the 2015 year. We combined cherries and strawberries for the first time. A total of 32 lions and friends worked about 150 hours raising combined strawberry/cherry sales of about $7650. There will be more cherry sales coming so we should exceed $8000. Final cherry orders stop Sat-urday July 4th with delivery date Saturday July 11th. Please order right away by going to www.lionsfruit.com or call Roy Pulliam at 360-608-3043. Also Roy’s email [email protected]. We are now starting our frozen berry sale scheduled for Saturday August 22nd. We will have flash frozen: strawberries, marion berries, blueberries, and raspberries. Yum! Yum! Bill Shalaby has agreed to be the record keeper for the frozen berries. Many thanks to all the club members for stepping up and making this such a huge success! In particular Adam Hegewald who did the record keeping which included for the first time our cherry or-ders and entering in all the emails. He logged in almost 50 hours on this project alone. Dotty Scott continues to help with our web site development of sales along with Tony Licata who intro-duced www.lionsfruit.com and this now shows all 4 fruit sales and will be permanent on our web site. Both Tony and Dotty are trying to move us along into cyber marketing which will be exciting to see us embrace this new approach. Keep your eyes peeled for new and exciting ways we can share to our friends and neighbors.

Thanks again and now look for “It’s Smoothie Time” sales with our fruit. Allen Rhyasen

$ 8,061 in interest income since January of 2015 It was moved and seconded that those listed below be the officers for 2015-2016 Steve Seymour President Bill Lundin Vice-President Peggy Lansverk Secretary Bruce Manning Treasurer Ralph Harding Patient Care Coordinator Bob Weller reported that he is in contact with the leaders of the Compassion event planned for Vancou-ver in July. The plan is to take applications and “how to access services” materials to the event. Compassion Vancouver Heights, July 11, 2015, Columbia Presbyterian Church, 8715 St. Helens Avenue, 9:oo am to 3:00 pm. Ed Hewitt made a report regarding the recent District Conference in Kelso. He showed us the out-standing information board that Bill Lundin created for the event. Ed reported few people were interest-ed in obtaining more information on clubs being involved in cooperatives to provide sight services. There was a discussion regarding White Cane Days. The funds gathered are forwarded to the North-west Sight and Hearing Foundation. Further, $ 3,065 came to Clark County from the Northwest Foun-dation to help with “high cost services”. Patient Care 1 application for surgery 45 applications for exam and glasses 3 denied 1 too many requests 2 non citizens/non-residents 42 applications approved The surgery: Jeffery White is a person the foundation paid for cataract surgery earlier in the year. We assisted, because he was faced with delays in scheduling operation and co-pay costs. Even when we helped, it was a surgery that should have happened earlier. Mr. White is in need of YAG Laser Sur-gery to correct problems that are not uncommon for a person who received delayed cataract surgery. I was approved to provide this service via PCLI for a cost of $723. We will apply for 50% grant from the Northwest Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. Good of the Order The Piano Hospital and Pacific Foundation for Blind Children will have a fund raising event on July 26 at Bethany Vineyard. Hazel Dell Lions will move its fireworks stand to 8118 NE Highway 99 this year. Meeting Adjourned 7:40 Next meeting July 7, 2015 6:30 p.m. at Washington State School for the Blind

It was suggested that we submit an article to be included in the Border Crossing. 1st VP Craig Limoges-Administration: Installation: Doug Hall did the Installation of Officers, using an airplane theme. It went well. We currently have a vacancy on the board of directors. Craig is following up on several possible candidates. Budget Committee: When we examine our actual expenditures versus our budgeted amounts we will have a base for developing the 2015-2016 budget. Craig will send out a request for budget needs as well. It was proposed that when the actual budget is presented for a vote that only board members be per-mitted at the meeting. Any input members submit prior to this will be considered. Social Committee: The next event is a hike on June 20 th. More details regarding meeting place, time etc. will be announced. After the hike there will be time for a picnic with each member bringing their own lunch. Dotty Scott is coordinating this event. Roy also announced the date for the Hillsboro Hops baseball game. For other office sup-plies save receipts and give them to the treasurer for reimbursement. Retreat Follow-up: On September 9, 2014 the Club Retreat was held. Sandy distributed a list of the general topics. These were: Fundraisers and Service Projects, Social Media, Membership, and Officer Positions. The goals under each category were reviewed.
