January 2016 City of Phoenix, District 7 HAPPY NEW YEAR! Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday sea- son with your family and friends. This month I was sworn in for my last term in office. I am humbled to continue to serve this dis- trict but also focus on making the next four years as successful as possible. My priorities continue to be public safety, protecting parks and creating jobs. Specifically, I support the Police Body Camera program in Maryvale and its’ expansion citywide. I encourage business growth in Estrella, attracting more large distributors such as the current organizations Amazon and Living Spaces. I will continue to advocate for the communities that have been affected due to the FAA’s RNAV flight changes as well as work with our federal delegation to affect legislation that would reverse this type of action and prevent future actions by the FAA that have such unacceptable outcomes to our communities. I will advocate for the Laveen community to get their fair share in streets and infrastructure, especially now with the new 202 Free- way and the potential for the areas growth. South Mountain will enjoy the completion of the Avenida Rio Salado project as well as light rail extension planning. And in downtown, we need a dis- trict parking solution, affordable housing and more culturally di- verse experiences. As always my office is ready to serve. Please contact us directly with any concerns or to share your feedback. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday sea-son with your family and friends. This month I was sworn in for my last term in office. I am humbled to continue to serve this dis-trict but also focus on making the next four years as successful as possible.

I will advocate for the Laveen community to get their fair share in streets and infrastructure, especially now with the new 202 Free-way and the potential for the areas growth. South Mountain will enjoy the completion of the Avenida Rio Salado project as well as light rail extension planning. And in downtown, we need a dis-trict parking solution, affordable housing and more culturally di-verse experiences.

As always my office is ready to serve. Please contact us directly with any concerns or to share your feedback.

OUTSTANDING YOUNG MAN/YOUNG WOMAN OF THE YEAR

The City of Phoenix Youth and Edu-cation Office is now accepting appli-cations for the 2016 Outstanding Young Man/Young Woman of the Year awards. This program is open to any students currently enrolled in high school and living within Phoenix city limits. Here's how the program works:

One young man and one young woman will be selected as winners from each city council district and receive an award of $500.

In addition, each district-level win-ner will be eligible for an additional $500 award if they are selected as the citywide winners.

Students interested in applying will need to write an essay, submit a high school transcript and proof of legal residence in the United States. Finalists will be interviewed by judges of the program including members of the Phoenix Rotary 100 and Soroptimist International of Phoenix. District award winners will be invited to a luncheon spon-sored by Rotary 100 and Soropti-mist International where the citywide award winners will be an-nounced.

Eligible students can apply through the online application form located at phoenix.gov/education/outstanding-young-man-woman before 5:00 p.m. Feb. 26, 2016.

Loud Party Ordinance

The City of Phoenix noise ordinance was adopted and amended to increase neighborhood safety and reduce threats to public peace, health, safety and general welfare. This or-dinance doesn’t stop at party noise and aircraft noise but addresses so-cial gatherings and events which result in disturbing the peace, qui-et and enjoyment of the community. The loud party ordinance address-es these issues because they can and often do lead to excessive noise and traffic, fights, litter-ing and other problems.

There are no allowable times during the day or night that excessive loud noise should be tolerated. If police are called and it is determined that there is a threat to the peace, health or general safety of the public the respon-sible party can incur a police response fee of up to $1,000.

On a similar note, flight path noise is a constant reminder of the challeng-es that some residents in District 7 face. Reporting excessive flight noise is a very important step in the fight against the flight path change. Visit http://www.planenoise.com/copad/q3qH4u/ to report flight path noise. You can also call the noise com-plaint hotline at (844) 244-7430 and leave a detailed message.

HAWK LIGHT INSTALLED IN DISTRICT 7

I’m excited to share with you that earlier this month the City of Phoenix Street Transporta-tion Department installed a HAWK signal at Raul Castro Middle School located on 79th Avenue & Thomas. The HAWK (High Intensity Activated Crosswalk Beacon) is a safety feature that’s installed in high pedestrian areas such as a school to allow students to cross the street safely. Traffic stops when the HAWK light button is pushed. District 7 is commit-ted to keeping pedestrians safe when they cross the street. This is the 6th HAWK location in District 7!
