A SUGA Thank You 11

Dates to Remember 12

Volume 1 Issue 6 2

I am grateful for the opportunity to share my thoughts with you in this fine publication. I wanted to put in print my appreciation for a decade of memories you and your peers have made for me. After 10 years, I leave oversight of MCC student leadership and Student Activities in the most capable hands of Director, Melissa Welch and I thank each of you for allowing me to linger just a bit longer as we make this transition. This academic year has been particularly special due to your unique personalities, ideas, and talents. It has been a joy to participate in this small piece of your individual educational journeys.

As this year comes to a close, we will each make different choices that will allow us to follow our dreams. For those who are returning to Middlesex, I hope you will take your leadership development to the next level. Try something new, learn a different skill, find yourself, smile more, make a difference. For those of you moving on – I wish you the best of luck on your next adventure! You have all been an integral part of the Middlesex community and have made 2011-2012 one of the best ever!

I promised Melissa that I would finally get out of her way so she can have the freedom to take the Center for Leadership and Engagement to the next level. I hope some of you will still take a moment to say hello! I’ll be just around the corner focusing my efforts on exciting MCC initiatives. I will always cherish the time spent advising Student Government, organizing retreats, and planning events. What I have learned from Middlesex students over the years has made me a better person – professionally and personally. Individually and collectively, you have touched my life. Thank you.

Best,

Rebecca H. Newell

CLUB HIGHLIGHTER

BOWLING CLUB

The Candlepin Bowling Club is a group of students and alumni

who bowl together every Sunday night during the semester at the

Woburn Bowladrome. The club members are a very caring, welcoming

group of students.

On March 25th they sponsored a tournament for all MCC students,

faculty, staff, family and friends. The members got the word out to the

Middlesex community and had 54 bowlers participate. There were at

least another 15 people who came to cheer on the teams. We had

arranged a handicap system so that even beginners had a fair chance of

winning. Pizza, soda and shoe rental were included in the fee of $2 per

person.

Prior to this event, the bowlers were busy last semester with our

annual Toys for Tots Drive which was very successful.

Student Achievement in Leadership

Volume 1 Issue 6 10

Do you want to participate on campus and have a hand in bringing change to the

Student Union? The end of the year is approaching, but think about next year!

Consider joining MCC’s Student Union Government Association next fall. Start off at

the beginning of the school year and have a chance to make real change. SUGA is a club

unlike any other, consisting of a 16 member board which focuses on managing student

clubs and implementing changes that students want and need.

Being a part of Student Government is an opportunity to develop leadership skills,

meet new friends, network with faculty and staff as well as local community members,

and is a genuine opportunity to make student life better for the future. If you are

interested in making an impact and learning about how things are done on campus, you

should consider joining!

If interested, please stop by the Student Activities office at Campus Center Room

201 in Bedford or 4th Floor Room 407 City Campus in Lowell for more information.
