Southwest Virginia IIA Chapter Newsletter Message from the President Larry Harrington, the Global Chairman of the Board for the IIA, was the keynote speaker at the District Conference. The presentation included a discussion of the “10 Imperatives for Internal Audit” which he said are needed to help practitioners discover areas where they can grow professionally and increase their value to their organizations. Number nine on his list was the need to invest in ourselves. He made the point that most of us only average between 21 and 40 hours of training per year and that we tend to rely on our employers to provide that training. He asked the question as to why we thought our responsibility for educating ourselves ended at graduation. No, he was not advocating employers end our training. Instead, he was saying that as internal auditors we have a responsibility to better ourselves beyond that training. I challenge you to do that this month.
