Message from our President
Good afternoon Angus Breeders, March is a busy time of year. Calves are being born and the excitement of last years’ breeding decisions are coming to light. Yearling bulls and heifers are developing nicely, and now it’s time to market them. The Finest Female Sale is just around the corner along with the PA Performance Bull Sale. MAJAC begins tomorrow and runs through the weekend and Oh by the way, we lose another hour of sleep for day light savings time. Some of us just got a foot of snow and some are recovering from a violent wind storm but I think we all have MUD. Welcome to MARCH. I love this time of year and look forward to grass. For the consignors to the PA Finest Female Sale, thank you. I look forward to seeing all of you in PA Furnace on March 30th. We will all need to work together to make the sale run smooth. If you are looking to add some good Angus cattle to your herd, this is a great place to find some good females from breeders that will stand behind their cattle. If you have any questions about the sale please contact the Angus Hall of Fame or any of the officers or directors in the state. If you are looking for a bull, the Pa Performance Tested Bull Sale will also be held at the LEC in PA Furnace at noon on March 30. There are 63 Angus bulls being offered that day. If you do not have a sale catalog please contact the LEC at 814-‐238-‐1851. I would also direct your attention to this newsletter as there are several farms offering bulls privately at their farms as well. Remember, the best way to upgrade your herd is with an investment in a bull. Juniors, when you receive this newsletter we will be passed MAJAC and well in to some of the Regional Jackpots. The deadlines for Atlantic National, Eastern Regional and the NJAS will be right around the corner. Let’s begin to put some of the teams together, take photos and look over the other competitions being offered at the NJAS. Two to three years ago average cattle or even poor performing cattle were turning a profit but since margins have tightened we can only afford to own the best cattle. The efficient, fertile, long lasting ones that work for you and me. The cheapest way to improve your herd’s genetics is with a quality Angus bull. As cow-calf producers the number one thing affecting our bottom line is “pounds of calves weaned/acre”. At Beaver Creek our bulls are monitored for pre weaning and post weaning performance. In addition, we are very critical of selecting only the long sided, deep bodied, thick ended, sound footed, fertile bulls that will serve as excellent herd sires.
