Looks like Fall is just around the corner - are you ready? I'm looking forward to
our Fall Social on the 13th, which is the performance of Fiddler On The Roof at
The Factory in Franklin. We also have a plan for dinner before the show. We
had a 20% discount on our block of tickets for really good seats. Tickets are on
a first-come first-serve basis.
We want to welcome our new members, some who joined us through the Au-
gust amnesty policy. Be sure to meet them soon. All ladies who have been
members for less than a year are invited to get involved with Lettuce Become
Friends. This is an activity where newer members can get together in a small group.
There are some groups which took time off in the summer that will resume this month also.
Some of the groups returning after a break are: Best Face Forward, Book Clubs, Bunco
Groups, Cocktails & Conversation, and Happy Hour. Check over the activity list and find one
to try out!
Also - VERY IMPORTANT ! September 19th is “Talk Like A Pirate Day” - Start practicing
your Argghh now.
Martha
Hi
This year has flown by. It seems only yesterday that I was anxiously looking
forward to the first signs of Spring and now the schools are back in session and
Summer is almost over. Labor Day is just around the corner followed by a ma-
jor holiday every month until New Year’s Eve! Let the celebrations and this
crazy wonderful season begin!
September is the month in New Neighbors when we welcome back our friends
who have been travelling and those activities which have had a Summer Break.
We will have more of our friends back in town and more opportunities to have fun with them!
Our Social is on the 13th of this month. The committee has put together a wonderful evening of
musical entertainment at a substantial discounted rate. At the time of writing, there are only 20
tickets left which is only 10 couples. We won’t be able to get any more of these tickets at this
price, so don’t delay. The Social Committee are also arranging a pre-show dinner in the Blue
Room at Saffire’s. If you have dined there, you already know how delicious the food is and if
you haven’t, you will want to add it to your list of favorites! Look for more details in this
month’s newsletter.
We are also in the middle of one of our annual fundraisers. Our club needs to raise funds to
make sure that we can cover our operational costs. The 2015 City Saver Books are available for
sale now until the end of September from members of the Ways & Means Committee. These
books are great for two reasons: firstly, we receive a substantial portion of the purchase price
and secondly, it is filled with a diverse range of coupons making it easy to recover the purchase
price! They are also a fun welcome gift for people new to the area and give us many economical
reasons to get out and explore! Look for more details in this newsletter. Furthermore, proceeds
from this fundraiser will help alleviate pressure on our next fundraiser – the Holiday Bazaar!! In
our New Neighbors community, don’t forget to contact Judith Arnold, our Corresponding Secre-
tary and tell her of anyone who is celebrating a wedding or the arrival of a new baby. We also
want to send our sympathies at times of loss of immediate family and encouragement to those in
times of trial. We want to let them know that we are thinking of them and that we care, so please
let Judith know. Finally, please don’t forget to look out for people moving into your neighbor-
hoods and let them know about New Neighbors. We have blue introduction cards available if
you need them. See you soon. Cheers!
Chris

Your Perfect Wardrobe: Confidence through style for women and
men!
Ladies, if you’ve ever felt that you have a closet full of clothes, but
nothing to wear, then please reserve your seat for our September
luncheon. Tina Adams, of Tina Adams Wardrobe Consulting, will
be sharing tips to help each of us enhance our personal style. We
love our timeless classic pieces, and there’s no end to what we can
do with them.
Tina has ten years of experience helping
her clients identify their personal style to build the perfect wardrobe for their life-
style, body type, and age. Her goal is to teach everyone how to make clothes
multi-task for their busy lives in today's modern world, and to help clients feel
consistently confident about their appearance.
In addition, she has extensive experience in a variety of other practical
fashion services - from a basic closet clean out, to a comprehensive wardrobe
transformation. Although she has close connections with some stores, she works
independently on behalf of her customers to ensure they get the best value.
Tina will show you how to get through this fall and winter, looking and
feeling your best!
Be thinking about that little black dress, and imagine wearing it five
ways in multiple seasons. That’s what Tina will be talking about!
Bring a friend to share the magic.

September 2014 • Notes & Quotes
It was a Caribbean cruise and the cabin had a piped in music video channel which played Heidi New-
field's "Johnny and June," many times a day. I couldn't help but think about those lyrics and how cleverly she
had used the Johnny Cash-June Carter love story.
It was only a few years after the death of Johnny Cash and several more before the Johnny Cash Muse-
um opened in downtown Nashville at 119 Third Avenue South. My recent visit to the museum brought back
memories of the Newfield song that was so appealing and afterward I am even more aware of their great love
story. Actually there is more than one love story surrounding the life of Johnny Cash. There is his first marriage
to the beautiful Vivian Liberto in 1954 which brought three daughters into the world, including the talented
country singer Roseanne Cash. There is the legendary love of his fans proven by the more than 100 million records sold. There is
the unique love and appreciation from segments of society with his support for restructuring and rehabilitation of incarcerated pris-
oners at Fulsom Prison and San Quentin Prison; as well as that from Native Americans with whom he sympathized and honored in
several songs. And, most renowned, is the love story between Johnny and June Carter, which began as they sang as a duet and
made music history with songs such as "Jackson." Johnny's turbulent first marriage ended and as we all know he and June were
married and had a son together. Their life in Nashville was built around a stunning architectural delight of a 14,000 square foot
home in Hendersonville where he entertained not only famous musicians but important politicos as well. His life cannot be capsul-
ized in a short article, but if you're interested in how strong an influence The Man in Black was to the music industry you might
want to visit the museum and see first-hand accounts of his television show where he introduced James Taylor and Gordon Light-
foot to the American TV audience. He is honored as an Artist, an Author, a Humanitarian and a Believer. I think if you choose to
see the museum you too will be a believer in the legacy and legend of Johnny Cash. Enjoy!

September 2014 • Notes & Quotes
This month's NNOTM grew up in Waverly, PA, which is a small town outside of Scranton. She has an older sister and she
and her younger brother were adopted into a wonderful family. She is an accomplished musician who plays the piano, guitar,
bass violin and clarinet. She received a BA in music from Boston University. While she was in college she also studied
abroad twice and is fluent in French and German. Her French improved while she lived with her "French family" in Stras-
bourg, France. She is still friends with this family today and they attended her wedding in 1994.
After graduating and becoming a BU Terrier alum, our new neighbor moved to Glendale, Arizona and received her Master's
degree from the American Graduate School of International Management. The school's nickname is "Thunderbird" since it is
located on a former WWII military airfield that was used to train pilots.
After becoming an international business success, our new neighbor took a job with a consulting firm in Cambridge, MA. She traveled all over
the world including every continent except Antarctica working on cost of living studies for executives. Her next business step was to become
Director of Housing at AIRINC. The Association of International Research Inc is a human resources consulting, data, and technology firm dedi-
cated to facilitating global mobility.

married. In fact Doug mentioned that this fall will be their 20 year anniversary. Soon after their wedding, these two Yankees, Doug from Con-
necticut and our new neighbor from Massachusetts moved to southern hospitality in Macon, GA. Thankfully they were transferred back north to
Rhode Island where they resided for fourteen years. While in Rhode Island, they had a son, Dillan, who is now fourteen and will be a freshman at
Page High School.
We are lucky that they were again transferred to Franklin, TN where they have lived for the last two years. This smart and talented lady has
graced this club as our past President and has the most beautiful smile. Please give a warm welcome for our July New Neighbor of the month-
Jaime Jones! Husband Doug, reported that he has started looking at the travel brochures to plan that 20 year celebration this fall.

Ladies, we have instituted a policy for all activities to help our hostesses and chairwomen:
When you RSVP for an activity, payment in full will be expected to hold your reservation. No refunds will be given unless you
cancel at least 48 hours in advance, unless there is a wait list and your spot can be filled.

voting membership. The member is awarded the distinction of being named New Neighbor of the Month. Nominations for this award can be made
by any Club member and are to be forwarded to the Club Director, Chris Byrne. Each nomination should show justification as to why the nomi-
nated member is worthy of the award. Information preferred on nomination: Name, Address, Telephone, Length of Time in the Club, NNLC Con-
tributions, Community Activities, Background Information, and Name of Person submitting nomination. All information is kept confidential.
Thank you all for your assistance in helping us select these worthy people.

Club Purpose - The purpose of the NNLC is to bring together new neighbors in the Nashville area so that they may meet and make friends, while
adjusting to new surroundings. The club’s intent and all activities are entirely social.
Club History - NNLC is the official social club of New Neighbors League, Inc., which was founded in Dayton, Ohio, in 1939, by Theodore R.
Briggs, a former newspaperman. From the business of meeting new residents and the experience of Theodore’s wife, Bunny, the need for a social
group to allow newcomers to meet and associate became apparent. With many moves to her credit before Dayton, Bunny drafted the constitution
and by-laws of NNLC with the aid of Ohio’s Federated Women’s Club, chartering the first chapter in Cincinnati, in 1943. In 1986, NNLC
Corporate and Club Headquarters moved to Atlanta and Cheryl Beaudreault became National President.
Membership—Membership in NNLC is open to women of all ages who are new to the area and have been visited by a hostess and invited to a
prospective membership function. The membership fee is $50, which includes a one-time national membership fee of $25 with transfer privileges
to any sister chapter, and a one-year activity fee of $25.00 . To maintain an active membership beyond the first year and participate in all activities,
a yearly activity fee of $25.00 for the activities is required.
