On May 29th the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury presented plaques in recognition of Calcasieu Parish Schools that participated in the 2018-2019 Parish Government Roadshow in Partner-ship with the Calcasieu Parish School Board. This initiative has been in place for several years and allows elected officials and staff to go into schools to talk to 8th grade students in our community about the importance of civic engagement and public service, to cover com-munity hot topics like litter prevention, and to promote awareness of local government ser-vices and functions. Thank you to all of the teachers, staff and principals in Calcasieu Parish for all that you do!—-Information and photos provid-ed by Calcasieu Parish

Mental Health Awareness Month

Each year, millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness! During May, the Na-tional Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the rest of the country are raising awareness on Mental Illness. Annually they fight stigma, provide support, educate the public, and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families. See https://www.nami.org/ for more information. For CCMSI and PGRMA information, contact Yvette Murphy: [email protected].
