Members news One Community Gala Dinner To celebrate its anniversary,
One Community, the Kirklees
Community Foundation is holding a
Gala Dinner at the John Smith’s
Stadium on Saturday 20th June at
7pm.
The dinner is kindly sponsored
by Robertson Baxter Ltd, and celebrates
the work of the Foundation in its first 5
years, during which time it has awarded
225 funding grants to local charities and
community groups.
The evening will start with a delicious
four-course dinner, comprising of
tomato and basil soup, slow braised
steak with buttery mashed potatoes
and fine green beans, served with a
thyme and a red wine sauce. This will
be followed by a little pot of dark
chocolate with an almond biscotti,
cheese platter, coffee and mints.
Entertainment will be provided by the
highly regarded international magician,
Michael Jordan from Huddersfield, with
his act, ‘High Jinx’. The Yorkshire opera
singers, ‘Serenta Quintet’, will then
entertain with their repertoire of opera
classics. To complete the evening, you
will be able to disco the night away and
make your own magical moves on the
dance floor!
Several fundraising activities will also
take place, and there will be the oppor-
tunity to bid in the auction for some
great prizes, including signed and
framed memorabilia, thanks to the
hard work of the Foundation’s
volunteers - from the England football
team, Johnny Depp, One Direction and
Stephen Fry, amongst others.
Sir John Harman, Chairman of One
Community, said: “It seems amazing
that we are now celebrating five years
of supporting Kirklees voluntary groups.
Over that time the Foundation has
helped some very worthy causes, and it
is now very rewarding to see what a
difference we have made locally.”

at £50 each, or £450 for a table of 10.

Project Service—Business Change Management Most companies experience changes
which can cause direct impact on their

presents challenges for the business,
staff and the technology.

ship with customers, understanding
both technology and their business pro-
cess allows P2 to proactively scope,
manage and minimise the risks associat-
ed with changes in business.

es P2 evaluate the new location through
a dedicated site visit, review server
room suitability, Internet and telecom
connectivity options, check structure
cabling, power and discuss all aspects of
the relocation with the customer before
agreeing on the improvements, key
dates and plan the project. The aim is to
ensure a smooth changeover with no
effect to IT performance and in many
cases improve it making it a positive
experience for staff with no hassle and
minimum disruption.
Utilising the team’s extensive experi-
ence P2 get involved early in the plan-
ning stage to scope, review and manage
the changes in technology to create
realistic and measureable goals.
Clear communication and documenta-
tion is used throughout all projects to
ensure the move date is met and the
team is contactable throughout the
transfer and available both on site and
remotely once the office move has tak-
en place.

Be a REAL employer—Be an leading example! REAL employment has a long and well
established history in successfully sup-
porting adults with learning disabilities
into employment in the local jobs
market spanning 25 years.
REAL means Realistic Employment for
Adults with Learning disabilities. A job
for someone with a learning disability is
not just about income. It’s about self-
worth, respect and esteem that many
of us take for granted. People with
learning disabilities can and want to
work and are willing and able.
Real’s experience tells them that with
the right advice, guidance and support
to both employer and employee they
can and do make good and loyal
employees.
REAL we pride themselves in the good
working relationships they have built
with employer’s over the many years.
With their help people have gained a
wide variety of employment
experiences.
Why REAL is successful:
What can REAL Employment offer your
company?
• Job matching (the right person for the
job)
• On the job training (an experienced
job coach to train the person)
• Health and safety (advice and train-
ing)
• Ongoing monitoring and support
(regular contact)
• Pre work assessments (what can the
person do)
• Relationship building in the workforce
(professional advice and support for
your staff)
• Risk assessment (all jobs and tasks
checked)
Real have worked with numerous com-
panies in the area including:
• Tastecard
• Hadfields
• Hansons
• CJ Catering
• Mc Donalds
REAL Employment can work with the
employer and the potential employee
to match individual’s abilities. If neces-
sary REAL can provide support for both
parties through the initial phases of the
employment relationship.
As a company it might be worth consid-
ered taking a little bit out of other jobs
to create a new position? This can free
up existing employees to concentrate
on more demanding tasks.
Job carving improves productivity, ser-
vice delivery and profitability by using
the skilled workers time to concentrate
on tasks that require their professional
level of skill.
An example may be by removing more
repetitive work from other positions to
create a job for someone who works
best at repetitive tasks.
It’s a win- win situation. A person with a
learning disability gets a fair chance and
as an employer you get a skilled, enthu-
siastic employee; their enthusiasm can
be infectious. Team dynamics and over-
all performance have been known to
improve when employing someone
with a learning disability. So why not
give someone a chance!

Huddersfield Town Centre Connectivity Project Kirklees Council have begun the
Introduction of bus gate traffic island
with carriageway repairs on Railway
Street, Huddersfield Town Centre
As part of the scheme to improve bus
journey times and accessibility through
Huddersfield Town Centre, the Council
want to inform businesses and
residents that a new
bus gate island is due to
be installed on Railway
Street, with footway
widening at the junction
of Station Street with St.
Peter’s Street. The works began on
Sunday 10th May 2015 and plan to
finish on Sunday 31st May, weather
permitting.
In order to carry out the work safely
with minimum disruption to adjacent
premises, a road closure will be in place
on Station Street between the junctions
of Railway Street and St. Peter’s Street,
with a signed diversion in place. The
work will be restricted to between
9:30am and 5:00pm. The council have
advised that any vehicles belonging to
businesses, residents or visitors are
parked away from the road whilst the
work is taking place. A plan showing the
proposals can be found on the
Huddersfield Partnership Website .
In addition to the programmed
improvements above, emergency
carriageway repairs are required on
Railway Street between the junctions of
Westgate and John William Street.
These will be undertaken during the
night between 8:00pm and 5:00am
from Monday 18th May to Friday 22nd
May, weather permitting. In order for
the repairs to be carried out safely,
Railway Street will be closed with a
signed diversion in place. The council
hope this will keep disruption to local
traffic, businesses and visitors to a
minimum.
“Unfortunately, there will be a certain
amount of noise associated with the
carriageway repair work during the
night,” says Chris Dunn, Principal
Engineer and apologises for any
inconvenience.
Please note, that in line with
Council policy for carrying out
noisy highway operations during
the night, alternative accommo-
dation may be available for adjacent
residents affected by the noise incon-
venience.
If businesses or residents have any
questions about the work, then you can
contact Chris Dunn on: 01484 221000
