CFA Columbus readies for the 2017-2018 programming year
Following an election and transition in the Columbus CFA Society’s board, work behind the scenes
is underway to attract talented speakers, deepen our connections with students and universities
in the area, and to support local events including the annual golf outing.
The upcoming list of speakers between now and the end of the year is stacked full of excellent
talent. There will be a dinner held in November with RJ Hottovy from Morningstar for the New
Charter Dinner. In addition, lunch events will include representatives from Wellington Capital
Management, First Eagle Investment Management, and Aegon Investment Management. Keep
an eye out for invitations to each event as we look forward to your attendance and participation.
Earlier this year, we held a research challenge that attracted some of the most passionate stu-
dent teams in the area, a number of speakers, and judges who evaluated each research presen-
tation and report. Steve Cavalieri led the effort and is now handing the baton to Megan Eberhart. You will hear more about the next event (and a call for volunteers) as we get closer to it.
Finally, for those who attended or supported the golf outing, thank you very much. It was an excel-
lent turnout and we look forward to a future event. See page 5 for a list of the results.

Columbus Contributes to Global Brand Campaign
In continuation of our support for the CFA Insti-
tute’s global branding campaign, we have made
some revisions to our advertisements at the Co-
lumbus airport. These ads reflect newly released
material from the institute and were designed to
more prominently display the local society.
Each of these is placed on a rotation on 80”
monitors of all three concourses at the John
Glenn International Airport (CMH). Look at the
side walls going to or coming back from your next
flight.
The themes were chosen to reflect wealth man-
agement and the rigor that goes into earning the
CFA charter. Both are important aspects to Colum-
bus and should help to raise awareness with em-
ployers, investors, and the community.

Society Leadership Conference in Philadelphia
Inside CFA Columbus
Education
At the 2017 Society Leadership Conference in Philadelphia, Josh Frazier (President), Zach Amendolea (Assistant Treasurer) and Jen Montenaro (Executive Administrator) represented the CFA Society of Columbus.
Society leaders from across the globe met from May 21-24 to share ideas and interact with the CFA Institute. Columbus rep-resentatives came away from the conference energized. Our local society has been thriving with membership retention rates amongst the highest of any CFA society in the world. Many Midwest societies were envious of our high profile speakers and well-functioning board.
New initiatives to be looking for include:
Mentorship program with local college students. Contact Ken Chee is you would like to volunteer as a mentor.
High School financial literacy presentations. Contact Josh Frazier if you have a connection to a high school econom-ics, internship, or business teacher.
All Ohio CFA Event. As one of only two states in the US to have 4 CFA Societies, there are efforts in motion to have an all Ohio CFA event.
Branding. The CFA Institute awarded brand funding to all CFA Societies. Be looking for ads at the Columbus airport. This could grow over time as the CFA Institute continues to make branding and awareness a priority as one way to pro-vide value to charterholders.
The CFA institute is exploring mandatory continuing education and mandatory local society membership. There was also dis-cussion around electronic testing for the CFA exams. No changes to those three items as this time. Josh, Zach, and Jen were appreciative of the opportunity to represent CFA Society of Columbus at this event. Please let any board member know if you have any suggestions for our society.
