What is it???

“Inside Berks Business” provides a great opportunity for educators to explore companies within Berks county.  It allows teachers to become more aware of technologies that are used within the workplace, what students need to do to prepare for future career opportunities, and what business practices are most current.  Information is provided about how each company impacts the community as a whole.

Met‐Ed is a company of …

The employees within this company rely on each other on a daily basis. The information that one department collects may be needed by another and so on.

One of Met‐Ed’s main priorities is the safety of it’s employees and customers. Training is provided to all the employees on the safety regulations within the building walls and out in the community.

There are many employees that work around the clock to make sure that electricity is provided to all customers at all times. Met‐Ed wants to make sure that each of their customers is satisfied with the service of the company.

Greatest Asset… CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

The call center is staffed with trained employees to make sure that all problems can be directed to the appropriate individual to solve all problems. Met‐Ed wants to make sure that all of their customers are satisfied at all times!

Met‐Ed provides educational materials to be given to teachers and allows teachers to participate in programs, such as iBb, to become more familiar with the current workplace.

Met‐Ed helps to improve the vitality of their community, promote economic development in their area, and support their employees leadership and volunteer interests. Examples include monetary donations towards Harvest for Hunger and United Way, volunteering of time to the Salvation Army, and participating in walk events like the “March of Dimes”.

Within the customer service department of Met‐Ed, it was brought to my attention that it is difficult to hire qualified individuals for the call center. As this is an entry level position, a program was developed to educate and train new employees.

Energy Delivery and Customer Service Systems Training is the title of the program

It allows new employees to familiarize themselves with the computer program used in the call center

Practice scenarios are given and the employees have to figure out how to solve the problem using prompt questions to gather the information needed to proceed

The initial Tier 1 program is 8 weeks in length and must be completed prior to the trainees going “live” in the call center

A second training is then provided to current employees to teach them how to handle more complex customer situations
