Although I won't cover it until the August Circuit, the Tour to the Parnelli Jones Collection we did a few weeks ago was absolutely fabulous. I expected we would be in and out in about an hour. After three hours we weren't even beginning to slow down. The information and stories we were getting from Jim Dilamarter were priceless. How Cosworth's 4-cylinder turbo motor came to dominate Indy was just one of them. We've got more of this type of event in the hopper, so stay tuned.
The Parade is coming in another month. For those of you attending, consider the organized tour that has been organized (page 13). I'm amazed at how quickly this Parade sold out. GPX will be well represented. This is the 3rd parade held in Portland, and my second there.
For those of us who remember Ascot Park in Gardena, and the decades of auto racing legends and memories it produced, check out the Legends of Ascot event this October (page 19). It is held at the Perris Speedway and brings out some of the true legends of motor racing history.
In September we've organized a 2-3 day trip to Palm Springs. Besides some fabulous food, we'll be touring the Palm Springs Air Museum and the Robert Pond Car Collection (page 8). This will be a fun get away. Besides these two scheduled tours, there is a great variety of other things to do and a great time of the year to be in Palm Springs.
I didn't get a written article on our recent Concours at the Queen Mary. There were so many great photos, I just did a big photo layout. Because of a music event the night before, we were not able to be in the park location we've had for so many years. Instead we were in a large pedestrian area right in front of the ship. While there were some very nice things about the location, it was very difficult for people to find. Several of us spent the day between the two sites directing traffic to the new location.
We had a great turnout, but there were still people who never did find us. I personally missed two cars, getting there just in time to see them get on the freeway. I gave chase to quite a few that day, but those two got away. One older, silver 911 must have thought I wanted to race (I was in my white F-150 truck). He never let me get close. Oh well!!!
PCNAs Rick Perkins and his wife, Nanci brought their Porsche tractor. I love seeing those things running around. The tractor was flanked on the lawn by the 50th Anniversary Club Coupes of Marty Noonan and Gary Peterson. Some great photo ops.
Peter Ross had a beautiful (and very tasty) cake made to celebrate the Grand Prix Region's 25th anniversary. It was a good size cake, but didn't last long. We are also being presented with a 25th Anniversary banner by PCA this week. Our annual Holiday Party this year will culminate our anniversary celebrations.
I hope you are all enjoying the summer. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event. There are many to choose from.

Breakfast Club Meeting — May 6by Peter RossWOW!!! That’s the only way to describe my feelings as I drove westbound on Sepulveda Boulevard and crossed Normandie Avenue and peered into the parking lot of Ricky and Ronnie’s Cruise-In Diner.
On the first Saturday in May, I arrived at 9:00AM and already, there were about 20 Porsches lined up in the parking stalls. Before the morning was done, there were close to 40 cars that ultimately showed up for the monthly Breakfast Club Meeting. Included among the attendees, was Rod Guyton, Councilman for the City of Torrance, who not only brought his beautiful Porsche Cabriolet, but had his friend Adam Geczi who purchased his previous Porsche Cabriolet drive to the meeting as well. So Councilman Guyton was personally responsible for two Porsche Cabriolets being present at Ricky and Ronnie’s. This meeting was one for the record and a total blast to boot.
In addition to Councilman Guyton, we had a host of people show up that greatly increased our numbers. We had some of our veteran members such as Barbara Gillam, Jim and Vicki Scrimger, and Tim Bryant. We had several new members such as Frank Arias, Bill and Beeber Clevenger, Ron Laforest, Dan Stern and Mike Wilson, along with potential new members Mikael Svensson (who I found washing a brand new Boxster in his driveway only days before) and Jimmie Mitchell, who happened to be driving by and saw all the Porsches in the lot and stopped to find out what was going on.
Michael Dolphin addressed the meeting and emphasized one major area that the club is all about. And that is the fact that it really doesn’t matter what kind of a Porsche you drive, or how old it is. We look at the older ones as thoroughly and lovingly as we do the newer ones. Three of the bigger hits on this day were Porsche 356’s that belonged to Mike Wilson, Peter Novak and Jim Scrimger, three eye-catching beauties they were.
The attending club members were: Frank Arias, Tim Bryant, Bill and Beeber Clevenger, Bill Davis, Norma Ann Dawson, Michael Dolphin, Robert Friedman (who’s a member of the San Gabriel Region), Adam Geczi and his daughter, Barbara Gillam, Armando Gutierrez (whose car is being painted, so he brought really nice photos of the work in progress), Rod Guyton (potential new member), Ty Ingram (who wound up with a Starsky and Hutch parking spot), Patricia Geary Johnson, Roger Jozel, Ron La Forest, Bob and Karen Lewis, Phil Millard, Rick Mills, Claude Mitchell, Jimmie Mitchell (potential new member), Harry Rippenbaum, Paul Rodelo, Peter Ross, Greg Schill, Jack and Patti Sciranka, Jim and Vicki Scrimger, Ron Shannon, Bob Silagy, Norm Stone, Dan Stern, Mikael Svensson (potential new member), Gregory White, and Mike Wilson.
If you’ve not been to one of our Breakfast Club Meetings, they’re getting bigger and better. The new breakfast buffet style is really working out fine, and the personnel at Ricky and Ronnie’s has become very proficient at staging the entire process. So clean up the Porsche and bring your questions to the next meeting…we’ll be waiting. We still have plenty of parking available.

European Car Enthusiast,
The California Central Coast Region, Porsche Club of America will again host its traditional Concours at the Coast
event on July 16. This year we have decided to expand the event by inviting our friends from the British and
Mercedes car clubs and all other European makes to participate. We would like this to be a low key, fun event for
all participants - truly a gathering of friends. Proceeds from these two events will go to benefit the Women’s
Shelter of San Luis Obispo County.
Concours at the Coast
If you own any model Porsche you are invited to enter your car in this portion of the event. Classes are Full
Concour Division (entire car judged), Street Division (engine, interior, exterior, storage judged), Wash and Shine
Division (exterior and interior only judged), Unrestored Division (original unrestored cars older than 1973), and
Display Only (non-judged). See the attached entry form for the correct class for your car. All PCA Zone 8
concours rules will apply.
All European Car Show
If you own any model, any year, British or European car we invite you to enter it in the European Car Show portion
of the event. “People’s Choice Balloting” by the entrants will determine awards in the event. All entrants will
receive two ballots. Voting will be completed by 12:30 with awards at 2:00 PM.

A2 – thru 1959 – original price over $3500 – all models

The event honors drivers like Jimmy Oskie, Wally Pankratz, Walt James, Jack Bruner and Leland McSpadden, JFK car owners Jack and Wilda Kendoll, and aluminum block engine

Racing enthusiasts from all over the US and Canada have enjoyed what has now become the largest open wheel racers reunion in the country. The event celebrates the people involved in the 33 years of operation from 1957 to 1990, at Ascot Park, in Gardena, California. Ascot was the nationally renown premier ½ mile dirt track on the West Coast, and many of the drivers of the era were starters of the Indianapolis 500 during the period. Past honorees include Parnelli Jones, Hal Minyard, Allen Heath, Dean Thompson, Ted Halibrand, Bobby Hogle and J. C. Agajanian to name a few.
