Dear Friend,

Joyful music, brightly wrapped packages, the laughter of children, the aroma of homemade cookies and festive family gatherings – the holiday season is quickly approaching and with it comes the spirit of Christmas.

This is the time of year when we make a point to share goodwill and glad tidings with our family, friends, neighbors, and other special people in our lives.

Sadly, for a very special group of Americans, the holidays are an especially lonely time of year. For many of our hospitalized veterans, Christmas is just another day spent in bed.

These American heroes sacrificed so much for us!

America celebrates the holidays as a free country. We must never forget this freedom has come at a very steep price as thousands of veterans carry permanent scars – both emotional and physical.

I have enclosed two very special holiday ornaments. One is my gift to you. The other will help remind our heroes that you care – that they are not forgotten! Please let me explain …

With help from caring Americans like you, The American Legion has been a constant presence in veterans hospitals across the country. Far too often we are the only visitors some hospitalized veterans receive.

Some veterans simply want to see a smiling face or play a hand of cards. Others need someone to talk to, someone who has also served and sacrificed for their country, someone who understands the horrors of war.

Together we can help ease the pain of loneliness for hospitalized veterans. We supply them with the things they need to help them get through the long days in the hospital. We help them with their correspondence and provide them with assistance in filling out VA claims and other paperwork. When our heroes are in danger of not receiving the care they need, it’s The American Legion who steps in to represent them in claims appeals.

Please help us make a difference in the life of a hospitalized veteran by remembering them with a special holiday gift today!

We are dedicated to helping ALL VETERANS through our many support and advocacy programs.

Return the enclosed ornament and you will share the joy of the holidays with a hospitalized veteran.

As our troops return home from Iraq and Afghanistan, we are working hard to insure that these brave soldiers receive the benefits they have earned . We have helped many military families cope with long deployments by providing financial assistance to help with the upkeep of their homes or unexpected household expenses.

The American Legion is working hard to help them transition back to civilian life by helping them find jobs, training, special services and emotional support in their hometowns. Through our programs, we help wounded soldiers and their families get the services they need to aid in their rehabilitation.

It’s not every day that you are presented with the opportunity to make a difference in the life of someone as truly special as a veteran. This is your opportunity to insure that our hospitalized veterans feel the spirit and joy of the season this year by sending a special holiday gift today!

Enclosed are two cards, each containing a very special 2013 holiday ornament. Here’s what I’d like you to do …

Step 1: Find the card with the red border. This contains your a very special Christmas tree ornament reserved especially for an American Hero. Detach the ornament and sign your name on the back.

Step 2: Using the enclosed envelope, return this ornament and your best holiday gift to us by December 3rd. We will see that your ornament is delivered to one of our more than 80,000 hospitalized veterans during the holidays. Whether they hang it on a hospital tree or display it in their room think of what it will mean to them to know that they are not forgotten … that YOU care.

Step 3: Take the ornament from the card with the green border and place it on your own Christmas tree as a reminder that YOU helped make the holidays brighter for our hospitalized veterans.

Please send your special holiday gift to help our veterans TODAY! Whether it’s visiting with a hospitalized veteran around the holidays or providing a new amputee with soft, comfortable clothing to help during their recovery, your gift will help these brave men and women who have selflessly served our country.

Your thoughtfulness will be remembered in our holiday prayers for you and your loved ones.

You truly are a friend to our veterans. Thank you for sharing your blessings during this holiday season.

Sincerely

William A. Pease National Developement Director The American Legion

P.S. Please don’t delay. Share the joy of the holidays with a hospitalized veteran TODAY! In order to insure your ornament gets into the hands of a hospitalized veteran, we must receive your gift by December 3rd.

PSS. To put your gift to work faster, make your donation online by visiting donatenow.legion.org.
