Introduction:TheSearchforTruth

hequestfortruthhassometimesbeencalledanendlessquest.Forhundredsofyears,philosophers

havebeenseekingforthetruth,andmademanyimpressiveobservations,buthavenotfoundit.

Someonehassaid,Thetruthisreallyanambitionwhichisbeyondus.Somewouldevendoubtthat

thetruthexistsatall,andwouldsay,asPontiusPilatesaidwithindifference,Whatistruth?(John18:38).

Thankfully,thetruthweneedhasbeenrevealedtousbyGod.Godwantsyoutoknowthetruth,becauseitisvitalbothforthepresentlifeaswellasthenext.Thisisthetruththatyouneed,inordertomakesenseof

yourexistencehere,andtomakegooduseofyourlife.

Ask,anditshallbegivenyou;seek,andyeshallfind;knock,anditshallbeopeneduntoyou.(Matthew

hetruthyouneedcannotbefoundinphilosophy,naturalscienceorbytranscendentalmeditation.

Thesethingsmaycontainsomefacetsofthetruth,buttheyareinsufficienttoshowyoutruthsaboutGodandHispurposeforyourlife.Godhasrevealedthesethingsbywritingtheminabookcalledthe

Bible.

I. WhatIsTheBible?

1. Itconsistsofsixty-sixbookswrittenoveratimespanof1,600years(1500B.C.-A.D.100)byaboutfortywriterswhowereinspiredbyGod,itsrealAuthor.

2. Itisdividedintotwoparts:a. TheOldTestament:Thesearethefirst39booksoftheBiblewhichdescribetheoriginofman,his

needforaSaviour,andpropheciesaboutHisfirstcoming.MostoftheOldTestamentwasoriginally

writteninHebrewandsomesmallportionswerewritteninAramaic.

b. TheNewTestament:Thesearethe27bookswrittenabout400yearsaftertheOldTestamentwascompleted.Theydescribethelife,teachingandpurposeoftheSaviour,JesusChristatHisfirst

coming,Hisrelevancetolife,andpropheciesaboutHissecondcoming.TheNewTestamentwas

writtenentirelyinGreek.

II. HowWasTheBibleWritten?

AllscriptureisgivenbyinspirationofGod,andisprofitablefordoctrine,forreproof,forcorrection,for

instructioninrighteousness:ThatthemanofGodmaybeperfect,thoroughlyfurnisheduntoallgood

works.(2Timothy3:16,17,theBible)

Fortheprophecycamenotinoldtimebythewillofman:butholymenofGodspakeastheyweremovedbytheHolyGhost.(2Peter1:21,theBible)

1. TheBiblewaswrittenthroughaveryuniqueprocess:TheSpiritofGod(knownalsoastheHolyGhost)cameuponahumanwriterandmovedhimsothateverywordhewrotewasfromGod.The

Biblethereforedoesnotconsistoftheideas,opinions,beliefsandthoughtsofmeremen.

2. EverypartoftheBiblewaswrittenbyGodthroughthissameuniqueprocessworkingin40differentwritersfromdifferentbackgrounds.Theresultwasthateverypartofitisinfullagreementwiththeother

parts.ThemessageoftheBibleisconsistentfrombeginningtoend.

3. SinceeverywordwasfromGod,therearenomistakesorerrorsatallintheBible,sinceGodnevermakesamistake!NeitherwouldGodallowanymisleadingorfalseinformationsuchasmythsand

legendsinHisbook.Thismeansthatitisfullyreliableanddependable.Youcantrustcompletelyin

everywordoftheBible.

4. ConsidersomeotherevidencesofGodsauthorshipoftheBible:a. TheOldTestamentreferstoitselfastheWordofGod3,808timesandtheNewTestament,525times.b. Thereareabout187propheciesintheBiblethathavealreadybeenfulfilled.Someprophecieseven

predictedwhatnameanindividualwouldbegiven,hundredsofyearsbeforehisbirth.

c. Thereare180recordedmiraclesintheBible,includingsixinstanceswhenthedeadwerebroughtbacktolife!
