Keyboards

The keyboard has a lot of buttons called ‘KEYS’, these are divided into many areas such as :

Alphabet keys Function keys(F1) Numeric keys Arrow keys Comand keys

© The most common keyboard used is the ‘QWERTY’ keyboard .This is because the layout is made for confort .This name was given because the first six letters on the top row of the alphabet.

Advantages & Disadvantages

© Keyboards are used for entering data.© Someone who is a skilled typer and spends a

lot of time on the computer can type very fast.

© When using the keyboard for too long .You’ll suffer from RSI a.k.a repetitive strain injury.

© when typing it is to make mistakes.

Pointing devices

Pointing devices such as mouses are common .Traditionally, the mouse used was called the mechanical mouse ,this used a rubber ball .Later on,the mouse used was called optical mouse this senses light in order to detect in which direction the mouse moves.Today the cordless mouse is used this transmits the movement.

© Is a small area on a portable computer.

© When the user touches it , the computer will be able to tell in which direction the user is moving his/her finger.

© Ideal where space is limited.

© moist or sweaty fingers can disrupt the signals.

Digital Camera Advantages & Disadvantages

Pictures taken by a digital camera are stored in memory card or on the camera’s memory not on a film

© Extra memory sticks can be purchased sepreatly.

© Digital cameras are generally more expensive

Bar Code readersare like scanners which use laser beams.Bar Codes are a that give information about the country of the product.

Joy stick©has a lever which one moves to change direction ©normally joysticks contain buttons called triggers.

Output device sare used to translate computer signals into human readable forms.Ouput:information that comes out of the computer.Output devices:devices that brings out information.

Printers

© Printers: give a hard copy of information.The speed is calculated in pages per minute. ADVANTAGES &DISADVANTAGES:Permenant output ,use of paper.

an inked ribbon in order to print.© Non impact printers: the head of the printer does

not touch the paper, and make less noise.© Character printer: prints one character at a time.© Line printers : Prints one line at a time© Page printer: prints one page at a time.

© work by placing small deroplets of ink on the paper, creating an character.

There are 2 ways the process can be done:
