I have prepared an innovative work in teaching the topic Balance sheet is a statement representation of accounting equation. I have used animation for making the class more effective.

After creating a rapport with the students, teacher begins the class by checking the student’s previous knowledge about accounting equation. After that teacher showing a power point presentation about accounting equation.

Accounting Equation

Asset (A) = Liabilities (L) + Capital(c)

Teacher gives a clarification about accounting equation.

The accounting equation forms the basis of accounting process. The accounting equation states that the total asset will be equal to the total equity.

Then teacher made a detailed PowerPoint presentation for the analysis of transaction using accounting equation.

Teacher shows a beam; both the pans of beam balanced remained at equilibrium. The right pans represent Asset side and left pan represent Liabilities side as of a balance sheet.

Page 3: Innovative work (1)

Then teacher show first transaction as

(a) On 1st January Ram, commenced business with a capital of 30,000.At that time, teacher write the accounting equation on the board and write accounting equation a A = L + C

Teacher asks the students to identify the effect of transaction. After getting the response, teacher compete the equation as; Cash = Liabilities +Capital

30,000 = 0 + 30,000Then teacher shows the effect on balance sheet in the form of a beam.Cash is fall on the right pan and capital is drops on the left pan. Again the beam at equilibrium.

Page 4: Innovative work (1)

Then teacher shows second transaction.

(b) Ram purchased machinery worth Rs. 1000 for cashTeacher asks the students to identify the effect of transaction. After that Teacher write it

on blackboard, in continuation of previous one.A = L + C

30,000 = 0 + 30,000(Cash)+Machinery = Liabilities +Capital

(1000)+1000 = 0 + 30,000 29000+1000 = 0 + 30,000

Then Teacher shows, PowerPoint presentation, to show the effect on balance sheet. In first phase, right side (Asset) of pan, move downward by decreasing the amount of cash .After that, Asset side move upward by increasing one more Asset as machinery and again the beam at equilibrium.

Then Teacher shows the third transaction as

(c) Ram purchased goods from Rahim on credit for Rs.10,000

Teacher asks the students to identify the effect of transaction. After that teacher ask the one of the student to write new accounting equation. Then shows the effect of it on balance sheet.

Page 6: Innovative work (1)

In first phase, the right side of beam move upward due to increase in weight as Rs.10, 000 as stock. In second phase ,the left side of beam (Liability) move similar to right side due to increase in sundry creditors Rs. 10,000 and again the beam at equilibrium. It is shown as follows:

Teacher concludes the class by showing a balance sheet representing items appearing in both side of beam and stating that “Balance sheet is the statement representation of accounting equation”.
