INNOVATIVE TEACHING MANUALName of the teacher : Jesna. A Standard: IX

Name of the school : D.V.V.H.S.S Division : D

Subject : Physics Duration : 35’

Unit : Motion Strength : 26

Topic : Newton’s Third Law

of Motion

CURRICULAR STATEMENT

Pupils develop factual knowledge, metacognitive knowledge and procedural knowledge on the concept of Newton’s Third Law of Motion through observation, discussion, experimentation and evaluation by questioning.

CONTENT ANALYSIS

Terms : Newton’s Third Law of Motion, Action, Reaction, Force

Facts : When a man jumps from a boat, the man goes forward and the boat goes backward.

In firing, bullet goes forward and gun goes backward.

Page 2: Innovative teaching manual

In rocket propulsion, the rocket goes upward and the gases comes from it goes downward.

When a man walk , he goes forward because of the force exert on the ground

When we release a balloon, the ballon goes to the opposite direction of the gas comes out from it.

Concept :To every action there is an equal and opposite

reaction.

Definition : To every action there is an equal and opposite

reaction. This is Newton’s Third Law of Motion.

LEARNING OUTCOME

Enable the pupil to develop

1, Factual knowledge on Newton’s third law of motion by,

a) Recalling the motion of an object.

b) Recognising different types of motion.

2, Conceptual knowledge on Newton’s third law of motin by,

a) Compairing the different types of motion.

Page 3: Innovative teaching manual

b)Generalising the idea on the factors affecting motion.

3, Procedural knowledge on Newton’s third law of motion by,

a) Executing activities on demonstration of the motion of an object.

b) Selecting suitable methods to identify the action and reactions of an activity.

4, Metacognitive knowledge on Newton’s third law of motion by,

a) Designing procedure for different types of motion of an object.

5, Different process skill such as,

a) Observing the different activities to understand the idea of every action and there is equal and opposite reaction.

6, Positive attitude towards science in general.

PRE-REQUISITES

Students already knows about the motion of an object.

TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES

Process: story telling method, poems, pictures

Materials: Source book, Internet, Pictures

Chart: Chart containing the definition of law.

TEACHING LEARNING INTERACTION

Classroom Interaction Procedure Pupil’s response

PAUSING THE PROBLEM

Teacher’s enters into a friendly talk and students says ,

teacher asked the students : I tells an yes

intersting story , are you ready…..

PRESENTATION

Teacher divide the students into groups

based on the seating arrangement.

ACTIVITY 1

Teacher starts the class with sing a poem,

Newton was a clever man

Do you know this poem?

He is a famous scientist.

He questioned many things he saw,

Page 5: Innovative teaching manual

Like ones we had no answer for

He thought them through right to their cores.

Then gave us many laws.

Do you know any laws?

Today we study one of the law of Newton

through a story.

ACTIVITY 2

Teacher tells an interesting story,

In a village, Raju and his brother, Saju were

lived. They were very close friends. Raju was

studying in 8 th and saju was in 12th, he was a

Science student .

One day Raju, go to a festival in their village

by boat. When he reached the palace, he

Jumped from the boat suddenly the boat goes

Backward .Then teacher asked the students,

Do you know, when he jumped from the boat

Why it gone backward?

Page 6: Innovative teaching manual

DISCUSSION POINTS

Do you know, when he jumped from theboat, why it gone backward ?

CONSOLIDATION

Raju applied a force on it. So the boat gobackward.

ACTIVITY 3

Teacher, continue the story ….

Teacher said that in this story, his friend did not knew the answer. Then they goneto the festival. There were many gamesin the festival. Raju saw that some boys were firing the balloons. He noticed that, when they fired the bullet goes forwardand the gun moves backward. He think about it, but he didn’t get the reason for that. Then teacher asked the students ,Do you know why it happens?

DISCUSSION POINTS

Do you know, why the gun moves Backward?

Page 7: Innovative teaching manual

CONSOLIDATION

Apply a backward force on the floor. This Is our action . Then the bullet excerts anEqual force on us in the opposite direction. This is reaction. As a result bullet moveForward. Then teacher again continue the story in This story, then he gone to the other Sessions and enjoyed the games in the Festival . But his doubts doesn’t gone. When he reached the home, he asked hisDoubts to saju. Saju clarified the doubts.

Saju said that when we jump from the boatWe exert force on the boat, so we moves Forward and the boat moves backward Because of the force exert by the boat onWater.

Saju explained the second case also. InFiring the force exert on gun causes the Bullet moves forward and gun movesbackward because of the force exert on us.At last , Raju understood why it is happened. He was so happy. Then teacher

Page 8: Innovative teaching manual

asked the students , Are you understand this story?, After correcting students inference, teacher Again sing a song at the same time students

Also repeat it.

Song:

“Newton’s Third Law of Motion,

Now bend a stick,

This is a action.

Before it cracks ,

You will feel it,

Force of pushing backward.

This is reaction.

For every action

There will be an

Equal and opposing”.

After analysing the class

teacher explained briefly and end it with a

review.

FORMATIVE EVALUATION PROCEDURE

Review

State Newton’s third law of motion?

Give an example of Newton’s third law?

FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY

Prepare an album of Newton’s third law of motion.
