- 80% of Nepal‘s population is living in rural areas.

- One of the poorest nations in the world with a per capita income of about $730.

- The majority of the population lack access to basic necessities including safe drinking water, health care, electricity

and food.

- 63% of the Nepalese households, particularly in rural areas, have no reliable access to electricity.

- Scheduled load shedding of up to 16 hours per day in most of the regions.

- Most households rely on traditional and fossil fuel energy sources (imported kerosene, fuelwood, animal dung

and agricultural residues) which has an adverse impact on health and the environment.

- More than 89% of the total population is deprived of regular access to quality drinking water.

- About 10,500 children die each year because of inadequate access to safe drinking water and poor hygiene and

sanitation conditions.

Achievements:

- Pilot with three Watershops in Southern Nepal (grant from Swissbluetec of CHF 150’000) started

in August 2014. Despite many difficulties in 2015 the Watershops are on Budget as of March 2016

- CHF 540’000 for 7 NEXUS Centers which will be inaugurated in May/June 2016 in Nepal

- Oral Confirmation of Triodos Bank to finance the remaining 90 NEXUS Centers if the

performance of the first 10 installations is positive for 4 months

- 2 Watershops in India and 3 in Madagascar (2 more in April 2016)

Next steps:

1. Implementation of 7 NEXUS Centers in Nepal and proof of concept until October 2016

2. Securing of additional 5 NEXUS Centers from Worldvision, Heifer and JTI Foundation for Nepal

until May 2016

3. Preparation and execution of Crowdinvestment Campaign for Nepal between April - October 2016

4. Start of NEXUS Project in Cambodia (small scale)

5. Securing of NEXUS Pilot Project in Ethiopia and/or Angola
