The County Library “George Baritiu” Brasov is committed to serving a diversifying community with a core population of more than 285,000 inhabitants

The Library is well regarded as an important education, information, entertainment and community resource for people of all ages

The Library features a collection of more than 630,000 physical items, including books, CDs, DVDs, periodicals, and software

The Library is also active in bringing new technologies to its patrons, offering dozens of electronic resources, computer equipment and training for adults and children, assistive reading devices and online services.

The Library is divided into eight departments: Administration, Technical Services, Children's & Teen Services, Circulation Services, Collections & Bibliographic Services, Information Services, Permanent Education Center, Multicultural Center (Hungarian, French, and English)

Each department is chaired by a Department Head who reports to the Director. The Library has 79 full-time employees

Through a partnership between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, IREX, the National Association of Public Libraries and Librarians (ANBPR), the Ministry of Culture, local and national governments, and libraries through the country, Biblionet is helping to develop a modern public library system in Romania

Biblionet is a five-year program that helps Romanian libraries better serve their communities through training and technology.

2,000 public libraries equipped, 3,000 librarians trained in how to use new technology to provide better services to library visitors and 41 new training centers for librarians established across the country

Milestone

DIGIFOLIO is a program address to secondary school-aged children 12 - 14 years old for developing digital competencies by using digital portfolios in order to reach active involvement of children in the educational process and productive usage of NTIC

SMS PRESCHOOL the purpose of service is to promote a healthy lifestyle for children through a joint program that combines practical activities for children aged 3 to 7 with the development of knowledge and skills among their parents and educators

Our inspiration

• The children’s remarks about the project show us that it was the most beautiful learning experience (Necula Andra-Oana), the best project (Mărcuş Andrei), it was new, useful and funny at the same time (many opinions), they learnt to think clearly and to develop their creativity.
