Our HistoryIn the late 90’s, we bought a ranch in Santa Rosa, CA and started a new company that had

the rights to a unique fencing product. Innovative Equine Systems was born out of a need

for information about equine products. We started expanding our product line with stabling

equipment and eventually designed our own fixtures and equipment to start fabricating stalls,

doors, and partitions. Soon, saddle and blanket racks became part of our accessory line, as

well as other peripheral products, including rubber flooring systems. Innovative Equine Systems

is now the industry leader in the concept of a one-stop resource for horse owners, contractors,

and architects.

Our headquarters are located in the beautiful Carson Valley, just minutes from Lake Tahoe,

and include a steel fabrication shop, a bead blasting and powder coating shop, management

offices, and inventory storage areas. We deliver our orders nationwide, many of them on our

own tractor/trailor rig, and have recently introduced service into Canada and Mexico. Just a

short 45 minutes from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport, we are also accessible by private

plane through the Minden/Tahoe Airport, right around the corner from our headquarters.

Our Facility

Early in our company development, we noted that quality barn interior products were difficult

to find. In our thinking, there is always a better way with new technology and newly designed

products that can make stabling safer as well as easier to maintain, nicer to look at, and sturdier.

We spent much time researching products from different suppliers, most of which were inefficient

and costly. Our mission became an effort to provide our customers and their horses with top-

of-the-line products without having to shop around for multiple companies. Although other

manufacturers have followed us into this area, not one of them starts from a cost basis rather

than a quality basis like Innovative Equine Systems. Other stall systems may look like the best

Steel channel is commonly used to hold the wood in place in your horse stalls and doors. Most companies use a formed channel, which exposes an unsafe and unattractive steel edge. Because we won’t compromise safety or beauty, we use only double rolled channel with a soft curve, which tucks the wood securely and beautifully in place - because your horses are worth it.

Our steel base plates, used to hold the posts and hinged doors in place, are 3/8” thick solid steel. Now that’s a real strong piece of metal, but to make it even more functional and durable, we have each base plate laser cut with holes in 4 locations for fastening to the floor. Add in an attractive radius so that the plate matches the curves of the posts and doesn’t jut into the stall doorway, and your horse will have nothing exposed on which to trip or get cut.

The grills in the upper sections of our stalls are set 3” O.C. with a 2-1/8” opening, a very respectable and safe spacing. For even greater safety where minis or babies are concerned, we use a tighter spacing on the lower grills – 2” O.C. with a 1” opening – keeping the same visual look and air flow. And the steel – 7/8” I.D. schedule 40 pipe – is incredibly strong.

Other companies may use a painted finish, which looks poor and erodes quickly – we powder coat all of our fabricated steel products. Bead blasting prior to this coating ensures a super clean, super durable finish. Our two-coat process, including a base primer coat, ensures superior corrosion protection and 188 color choices available, you’ll find the perfect shade of slate, seafoam or sienna.

Our stall doors have tightly spaced grills which provide extra security for minis or babies, and heavy-duty door posts. The door openings are not blocked by tracks or steel channel, thus eliminating the stumbling and tripping that causes so many injuries.

Made of stainless steel and brass, our finger latch allows you to open your hinged stall doors with one hand, thus making access into the stall a breeze. It can be opened from inside or out, and has no protruding or dangerous bolt latch. An Innovative exclusive.

Adjusting a stall door is possible on either side of the door, but not necessarily safe. Because our finger latch is on the side of the stall door that horses are walking through, we designed it to be mortised (hidden), and thus not adjustable. Our proprietary, heavy-duty and fully adjustable clevis hinge is built into the opposite side of the door and allows for an ease of installation unheard of in the industry

The Savannah is our most elegant and most requested stall, and is one of the four hinged-style stall fronts that we offer. The open style of this stall, in true European fashion, meets the socialization needs of your horses in a classic, elegant manner. The exceptional, artisan crafting of the radiused wings makes the Savannah the ultimate in design and function.

The Cheyenne is an outstanding example of what can be accomplished with a sliding horse stall. Rather than prison bars, ensconce your horse in this beauty. Centered doors, instead of off-set doors, make the “wings” even stronger and more attractive. An incredibly durable set of sliding hardware comes standard with this stall, and the grill plunger mechanism in the door latch makes opening and closing this door a real pleasure – with just one hand.

Not everyone needs the custom stalls we’re known for. The Durango horse stall is our first production model. Built with a 12-foot post and beam building in mind, the Durango combines ease of installation with a sophisticated door and latching system. Offering a unique open stall front concept with superior craftsmanship and attention to detail, this stall is the best of both worlds.

The Lexington was designed for the client who loves the features of our Savannah stall, but wants a hinged door with a high stall front. This stall, perfect for stallions or horses needing to be fully contained, has the same exciting features as the Savannah, including solid brass finials, standard finger door latches, and adjustable hinges with “never-need-greasing” bronze bushings.

Our Rubicon stall has the distinct honor of being named “The Perfect Stall” by Dr. Karen Hayes, noted equestrian author. In her book of the same name, she says of the Rubicon, “It was a pleasant surprise to learn that they’re not only affordable and everything I hoped they’d be for my horses, they’re actually a huge money saver. I hadn’t realized how much money I frittered away, year after year, maintaining my old-fashioned stalls.”

The Monterey was designed for boarding and training facilities that require a stall with a sliding-style door. A fancier version of our Cheyenne, this stall is often used in barns where a greater degree of security for the horses is provided via the high stall door. The grilled tops and wood bottoms assure that your horses get the privacy they need without sacrificing the view. And like the Cheyenne, this stall is no jail cell – it’s a real beauty.

Like our Monterey? Then you’ll love our Montana, which has the same high front on the door and wings, but an additional grill section on the lower door for more socialization and ventilation. The upper door grills are 3” O.C. and the lower door grills are 2” O.C., providing an absolutely secure and safe method of containment. This is another great stall for barns where your horses’ security is paramount, but you still want the physical and mental health benefits of more light and better air flow.

A Dutch door is a beautiful and sensible addition to any barn. It accomplishes several purposes, the main benefit being a way for your horse to exit his stall into a paddock or pasture without having to be led through the barn – both a timesaver and a way to keep your barn aisle cleaner. They also are important for light and ventilation, both being vital for your horses’ health.

We have a wide variety of barn doors available in both hinged and sliding styles, including solid wood doors, doors set up for glass tops, and doors with half-cross bucks or full-cross bucks.

Our custom end doors are made using a rectangular tube stitch welded to an outside skin making the doors very hefty. We manufacture these doors to order in various sizes and configurations, including radius tops, glass tops (glass not included) with cross bucks, or plain wood to match the interior. Built to last with wood inserts, these doors are all framed out in steel with the highest quality sliding door track and nylon sealed ball bearing trolleys with delrin stays and hardware.

Our tiles are the perfect solution for a permanent stall floor. We have all the hardware you need to complete your system, including tubing, easy-to-install nozzles, and various connectors and adapters. Order what you need for your new system, or retrofit an existing one.

Also known as pyrethrum, this chrysanthemum-based insecticide gives unsurpassed knockdown and kill, and is the traditional type used in automatic systems. We sell this 6% biodegradable concentrate of Pyrocide 7369, which is EPA approved in equine, dairy and other livestock applications. Use a half quart in 15-gallon systems, a full quart in 30-gallon systems, and 2 quarts in a 55-gallon system.

Permethrin, with its 13.3% concentration, is a synthetic, residual insecticide and can be used in automatic systems as well as manual sprayers. Apply it directly to walls and ceilings for additional insect control. Recommended for use in larger barns because of its cost-effectiveness, it should be used in conjunction with PBO, a resistance additive.

Unfortunately, those little buggers can become immune to insecticide over time. PBO is an additive whose active ingredient is made from the sassafras tree and it interferes with an insect’s ability to resist the insecticide. We recommend you use this product in conjunction with permethrin. (Pyrethrin has a built-in resistance additive.)

Odor-Mist is a concentrated odor eater that neutralizes odors, rather than covering them up. It destroys nitrogenous and sulfurous odors, and makes your barn a more pleasant place to be. Water based, it can be added right into the same barrel as the insecticide.

Most breeders want to use all of the stalls available during the season and require a larger stall for mom and baby. We have designed a hinged partition that folds in two directions—one small portion to the front and the larger one to the back wall. This opens up and makes a large stall when necessary and closes off to add a stall after baby is ready to leave mom.

Our hinged feeder door, designed for our sliding horse stalls, has a two-fold purpose. Besides the obvious benefit of not having to open the stall door to feed, it also serves as a yoke, but not a drop-down yoke, as we believe they are a safety hazard in a barn. Built with a unique plunger latch system, the door opens out, not down. And ask us about our door magnets, which allow you to keep the feeder door open, should you choose.

Our brass finials, available as solid flat finials or hollow brass ball finials, add icing to the cake. The flat finial, shipped unpolished so as to age to an old world look, is made with a hidden attachment and cast with an underside lip that hides the top of the door posts. The ball finial is a separate piece, and has a hidden and recessed blind rivet nut that attaches to the flat finial. It is polished to a brilliant sheen for added bling in your barn.

Many barns, whether historic buildings or new construction, will sometimes require custom sizing. If a steel fabrication product is made outside of a template or “fixture”, the welding operation takes more time. Innovative Equine Systems prides itself in custom sizing for whatever the contractor needs. We have also developed a new hinging system called a Clevis hinge to adapt to most problems on the job site such as warped or twisted timbers. Instead of allowing for too much clearance at the latch side – creating a large gap and a dangerous situation – we have a 5/8” plus or minus adjustment to make up for size issues, making the installation easier and less costly. Yes, the clevis hinge costs us more to make, but in the long run, it saves our clients money with a door that closes properly and securely as well as being easier to install.

When your building is made of wood, our Dutch door or shutter yokes are an excellent way to prevent the horses from getting to the front of the door or the side of the building. Our radiused yokes affix to the inside of the lower portion of the top of the Dutch door or are inserted inside the frame of a shutter. The grills are 7/8” O.D. pipe 3” O.C. and powder coated to match the frames of the exterior doors. We use heavy gauge steel for the frame as well as the radiused portion.

The finest of exotic hardwoods is available with our horse stalls. Stronger and more durable than regular woods, this lumber comes from managed, trackable forests so it is an environmentally responsible choice. It has exceptional fire resistance and is highly resistant to decay, humidity, fungi and termites. Why settle for less than the best?

High density polyethylene (HDPE) lumber is made from recycled plastic materials (and can be recycled again). Longer lasting than most traditional woods, it is virtually dent-proof, moisture-proof, rot-proof, and insect-proof. Because of its slippery nature, horses don’t like to eat it. Available in a variety of colors, it is extruded into traditional lumber sizes with the traditional lumber grain. It will self-extinguish in a fire if fuel is withdrawn. It can’t splinter, doesn’t crack and is maintenance free. Wow - this one’s a shoe-in for those who don’t want wood in their stalls.

Our commercial grade mushroom heaters offer the best portable heat in a barn sitting area or on an outside patio or deck. At 45,000 BTU’s and made of stainless steel, these offer localized heat where you need it on cold mornings or brisk evenings when you want to be with your horse but don’t want to heat the entire barn.

High intensity infrared heaters, in natural gas or LP styles, are the most cost effective method of spot-heating barn interiors, wash racks, tack-up areas, or individual stalls. Available in various BTU output levels (dependent on the mounting height), the high intensity infrared heater can save up to 50% on heating bills and comes with a 5-year warranty from the manufacturer.

Low intensity, radiant, ceiling mounted tube heaters offer the infrared technology that standard convection heating cannot provide. The tubes can be mounted to heat both the rider and the horse without the inherent cost in attempting to heat the entire building. The cost to run infrared heaters is a fraction of conventional convection heating systems.

Replace your old metal halide light with this fixture that produces 30-50% more light, lasts 50% longer, and uses only half the electricity. The light is “instant on” at -20°, produces no glare or shadows, and is sealed to be watertight for ease of cleaning with a power washer. Producing the equivalent of 700 incandescent watts, it has skylight-quality light using only 96 watts.

This long-lasting stall light is easily installed and completely power-washable with no parts to rust. With quality closest to daylight, the lamp lasts up to 13 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs, saving you time and money in replacement bulbs. It is always best to use products that are suited for your particular application. The “Barn Cooler” is designed specifically for agricultural use with heavy duty construction and an energy efficient motor. The 20” unit has heavy duty aluminum blades with the fan guard powder-coated. Keep your stalls and barn ventilated and cool, so important for you and your horses’ health.

QuickRail is a series of components – brackets, rails and posts – that when used together, create a unique solution for horse and barn paddocks, arenas and turnouts, round pens, and tight containment fencing. Rather than replacing an entire section of fence when the inevitable damage occurs, simply remove a QuickRail bracket, replace the damaged rail, and rebolt the bracket into place.

This product is from RECYCLED HDPE as well as a natural biodegradable by-product of wheat straw. It is called Prairie Ranch Fence and is an exclusive of Innovative Equine Systems.
