INNOVATION OF A FOOTBALL(BALL)

Introduction

What is a ball ? A ball is a round, usually

spherical but sometimes ovoid, object with various uses.

History AN IMPERFECT BALL Early soccer balls were hand-sewn and made of leather. They were never perfectly

round, and inflating them required some skill. The laces had to be undone before an interior air bladder was filled and tied with a thread; then the laces were retied.

In 1855, Charles Goodyear designed and built the first vulcanized rubber soccer balls (footballs). 

INOVASION A. Outer

Cover: Polyurethane (PU) or PVC

Advantages :- protect the ball from

damages like scuffs and scratches. It also made the ball playable even on wet weather.

INOVASION B. Inner lining: Cotton &

polyester Material used – polyester

and cotton. (4 layer)

Traditionally – same material (2 layers)

Advantages :- Easy to control.

INOVASION C. Bladder:  Material used - Butyl or

latex Traditionally – same

material.

INOVASION D. Stitch: Polyester, Kevlar

or glued by thermal heating Traditionally – hand-sewn

and made of leather Advantages :-

the ball smoother and more accurate.

INOVASION E. Valve: 

the part of a soccer ball where air passes through when inflating it. It is a needle-like structure which looks like a tiny hole from the outside.

Material used -Butyl or silicone
