Since 1960, Sealed Air Corporation

has been leading the way in terms of

innovation, collaboration and corporate

citizenship. Nowhere is this more evident

than in our efforts to preserve our

environment through intelligent package

design. In 2008, the efforts of Sealed Air

Corporation’s 35 global Packaging Design

and Development Centers eliminated

two million pounds of packaging, while

maximizing cost effectiveness and product

protection. Less material means smaller

packages which in turn reduces both the

number of truckloads required to ship and

the associated transportation impact to our

environment. At Sealed Air Corporation, our

goal is to provide more effi cient solutions to

our customers to help them address their

sustainability needs.

Plastic Recycling ProgramThrough our Plastic Recycling Program, we select and recycle spent plastic materials that are classifi ed as pre-consumer, post-consumer or would otherwise enter the waste stream. This recycling program has been ongoing for over two decades and was recently updated to include our newer product offerings.

We actively encourage our partners to return accepted materials such as Bubble Wrap® air cellular cushioning, Cell-Aire®, Cellu-Cushion®, Ethafoam® and Stratocell® polyolefi n fabrication foams for recycling and reuse through authorized Sealed Air locations. This program results in less waste, higher corporate responsibility and in some cases increased profi t for our partners who use it.

Helping Our Customers Help the EnvironmentIn addition to capturing and reprocessing scrap generated in the manufacturing of our own products, Sealed Air Corporation is making a concentrated effort in providing our partners and customers with the technical support and advice needed to make informed decisions and build robust environmental programs of their own. This value-added partnership has led to packaging and transportation solutions that leave a lower impact on our environment and a positive impact to our customer’s bottom lines.

Our design lab specialists create packaging that generates less waste,

reduces cube sizes andlowers transportation costs

Our Salable Ratio Initiative ensures that more than 94%

of the raw materials we purchase fi nd their way into a

useful product

Intelligent DesignSealed Air has long recognized that true environmental stewardship encompasses more than just recycling materials at the end of their product life cycles. True environmental support starts from the beginning. To support our problem solving, consultative selling approach, Sealed Air has over 35 packaging and food science labs located around the globe. These labs, staffed with food science and packaging specialists, provide the venue to design, test and demonstrate packaging for specifi c customer needs. These labs also serve as one of the fi rst opportunities for Sealed Air to work with our customers in creating more effi cient designs that minimize environmental impact. We offer this service to our customers to help them meet their sustainability objectives for fi nancial and environmental performance.

It All Starts At the End. End Consumer That Is...Ultimately, the largest decider of how our products impact the world we live in is our end consumer. Through our web site at www.recyclepefoam.com, Sealed Air Corporation has created a program that enables our fabricator and distributor network to work with our end consumers in raising awareness and spurring action for consumer packaging recycling.

This program is intended to provide a simple way for consumers to recycle polyethylene foam they receive as protective packaging with the products they purchase. We encourage fabricators to join this program and follow Sealed Air’s commitment to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Within Sealed Air, our active energy reduction program has had

a signifi cant impact on our ability to reduce our overall energy consump-tion, and greenhouse gas emissions

generated from our operations.

Sealed Air Corporate CitizenshipA Continuing CommitmentSealed Air is committed to continually reducing our environmental impact. By focusing on environmental effi ciency, we are helping our customers meet the challenges of today’s world.

The Sealed Air ContributionSealed Air is committed to providing solutions to our customers’ environmental challenges in a reliable, cost-effective and responsible manner. All of our foam packaging materials including Cellu-Cushion®, Ethafoam® and Stratocell® polyolefi n fabrication foams are produced with the following environmental factors in mind:

Source Reduction: Using minimal amount of packaging materials to maximize product protection.

Reuse: Manufactured to high performance and quality standards that allow product to be used again in subsequent applications.

Recycle: Manufactured from polyethylene and can be readily recycled with other low density polyethylene (LDPE) materials.

Recovery by Waste-to-Energy: These foams are an effi cient energy source due to their high caloric value. Recovery through waste-to-energy is a viable waste management option.

Landfi ll Compatibility: Bio-stable – they will not degrade to pollute the air or water table.

Heavy Metals: Meets all applicable state and federal regulatory requirements with respect to heavy metals content.
