From the Desk of the Director of Golf:Valued Members, I hope you were all able to come out and enjoy the Valspar Championship (or at least watch it on television) last month. Once again, the tournament required an extra hole to determine the winner but in the end, Charl Schwartzel beat out Bill Haas with a par on hole #18, their first playoff hole. Blistery winds the first two days, as well as the final day, made playing conditions very difficult. The winning score at just -7 showed the world just how challenging the Copperhead Course can be and why it continues to be a favorite amongst PGA Tour Players. A recent player poll from the Golf Channel has the Copperhead Course once again as the PGA Tour Players favorite course on the Florida Swing; beating out TPC Sawgrass, Bay Hill, PGA National and Doral.

I’m very excited to announce that Valspar has extended their contract as our PGA Title Sponsor for an additional 3 years! This ensures that the Copperhead Course will continue to be a stop on the PGA Tour through 2020! This is the first time that a Title Sponsor here at Innisbrook has extended their contract and we couldn’t be happier to continue our partnership with Valspar.

Another great story that came from the tournament was the historical play of amateur, Lee McCoy. As many of you know, Lee grew up as a Member here at Innisbrook in the early 2000’s and is the #1 player on his team as a senior at the University of Georgia. Lee was given a special exemption to play in the tournament from Valspar and made the most of the opportunity by making the cut, right on the cut line, at +3; this alone is a great accomplishment for an amateur. He then went out on Saturday, paired with past Champion Gary Woodland, and shot a 5 under score of 66. But maybe the most impressive achievement of all was beating the #1 player in the world and last year’s champion, Jordan Spieth in a head to head Sunday matchup shooting a two under 69 and finishing the event tied for 4th place. Lee is only the 5th amateur in the modern era to finish in the top 5 of a PGA Tour event. We couldn’t be more excited for Lee and are proud to call him one of our own.

Interclub EliteI can’t say that we didn’t give it our all nor didn’t have fun as we wrap up the 2015-16 season of Interclub Elite at Avila Golf & Country Club.

It was the first season where we had a legitimate chance at capturing the trophy – thanks to some good golf leading up to the season finale. Unfortunately, we ended up playing against the leading team at their home course!

See right for results: Avila 50 ½ Palma Ceia 41 ½ Innisbrook 41 Cypress Run 40 Belleair 37 ½ Old Memorial 23 ½

• Avila (9 ½) VS. Innisbrook (3 ½) • Cypress Run (4 ½) VS. Palma Ceia (8 ½)• Belleair (8) VS. Old Memorial (5)

Thanks to all that participated and for everyone’s support – until next year!

“ From within the Tee Box” by Director of Golf Instruction, Dawn Mercer

Simple keys for better greenside sand play:

The most common errors student’s make when hitting a standard greenside bunker shot are poor ball position & lack of acceleration to a finish.

Place the ball forward in your stance so that the entry point of the club can strike 1 inch behind the ball hitting the sand first. Keep in mind, the sand tosses the ball out so you need acceleration to a high follow through for best results. Challenge yourself to make a full swing to a finish, hitting sand first, to see just how high and long the ball travels. For firm sand… square the face, for fluffy sand… open the face to expose more of the bouncing back edge so the club doesn’t dig too deep. For any questions or to schedule instruction please contact me at [email protected].

Newer Members of the IWGA were welcomed by the Ladies and President of the IWGA Chris

Malmgren at the Ladies Tuesday play on March 1.

PARENT CHILD FUN TOURNAMENT“Swing into Spring”

Sunday April 17 • 1-4pm

Member Price $20 per team • Non-member Price $25 per team All ages welcome. Orange ball only

Judi Alford will be presenting the new and exciting 10 and Under Youth Tennis Progression pathway.

The 10 and Under Tennis Youth ProgressionYouth Progression serves as a guide for coaches, parents and players to ensure that kids 10 and

under participate in events using the appropriate ball for their skill level. Now that balls and courts are tailored to a player’s level, children can improve and have fun right from the start.

Kids love playing games. That’s why we’re applying gaming principles to 10 and Under Tennis. The mission is to clear each level by collecting a combination of 20 virtual participation stars and or trophies. Best of all, players can track their progress on TennisLink’s My Player Page. The more they play, and the more they improve their skills and clear each level, the more stars and trophies they accumulate.

The minimum age to start playing on Orange Ball Progression Tournament is 7 years old. Players 6 and under are encouraged to participate in Play Days, Junior Team Tennis and Junior Tournament using the red ball. On the first day of a player’s 11th birthday month, he or she will automatically

advance out of the Youth Tennis Progression tracking system.

The Youth Progression requirements are minimum recommendations for competitions. Players are encouraged to stay at their current level until they have fully developed their skill set for that

specific court and ball. Remember, it’s not a race to the yellow ball!

Table Talk with Chef Andrew ConiglioBison Rib-Eye RecipeOn Packard’s dinner menu we have the Game/Exotic Selection. Recently we have been offering a Bison Rib-eye and have had great feedback and many inquiries about the product. This month I wanted to share information about the product and health benefits of Bison. We use Great Range Bison from the golden prairies of South Dakota were they produce over 400 head of bison per week. They use an in-house grading system to guarantee premium quality and consistency. Characteristics such as fat color, fat cover, muscle color, ossification and weight are the major factors in determining its grade.

Nutritionally speaking bison is lower in calories, fat content and slightly higher in protein than beef. When talking about burgers, the USDA says, a grass-fed bison patty has less calories and grams of fat than a 90 percent lean beef burger and even less than a 93 percent lean turkey burger.

Due to bison meat being so lean, it does cook quicker than beef and becomes tough if you cook it at too high a temperature or for too long. would suggest cooking bison steaks to no more than medium to keep from drying out.

Below is a recipe for a BBQ Rub you can use on any meat and goes well with a Bison Rib-Eye. Any rub will help keep moisture in while adding flavor.

INGREDIENTS

Cooking Method1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl and store in an airtight container for up to one month.

I would also like to let everyone know that this will be my last “Table Talk” as I will be leaving Innisbrook for a new career opportunity. I have enjoyed my time here with Salamander Hospitality and doing such fun events for all the members and guests. Thank you for all your support and feedback as you have made this a very special place for me. You may still see me around having a meal at Market Salamander Grille or Packard’s, if so, please stop by and say “hello”.

• ½ Cup Kosher Salt• ¾ Cup Brown Sugar• ½ Cup Paprika

• ½ Cup Chili Powder• 2 Tablespoon Cumin• 2 Tablespoon Granulated
