INNIS COLLEGE STUDENT LIFE NEWS 3

Welcome From The Innis College Student Society!

Hi folks! My name is Khrystyna and I am the President of the Innis College Student Society. On behalf of the ICSS, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all incoming first year students.

The Innis College Student Society is the student-elected governing body at Innis that represents all of the college's students, whether they live in residence or commute to campus. We host tons of events throughout the year that cater to the different needs of students, such as our annual formal, and provide various services like our Metropass draws.

The student society also participates in various campus-wide initiatives, which focus on issues like mental health and sexual violence. We encourage all incoming students to get involved in the Innis community, whether that's through the ICSS or through the many

other opportunities provided at our college.

If you are a first year who is interested in being a part of the Innis student council, we will be holding a by-election in the fall for the following three positions: Innis Residence First Year Rep, Off-Campus First Year Rep, and Chestnut Residence First Year Rep. Getting involved on the ICSS as a first year is a great way to get acquainted with the community, as well as represent first year student needs on the council. Nominations for each position will occur during Frosh week, so keep an eye out if you would like to join the council.

If you have any questions about the ICSS, please don't hesitate to email me at [email protected]. And once again, welcome to Innis College!

GET INVOLVED AT CLUBS DAY!

Love board games, tea, music jamming, trivia, signing, photography, or graphic design? There are Innis clubs for each! ….and look out for exciting new clubs starting the year!

Arts, Culture & Diversity WELCOME INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS!

The International Committee is comprised of the Innis International Programming Don, Graham, and two International Ambassadors, Karen and Lanxin. Together they are here to aid in the smooth transition of international students to Innis, AND to provide cross-cultural programing to all Innis students, international and domestic! This year we are excited to bring to you our “Canadian Conversations” series. Come meet us at Clubs Day during Orientation, join our committee and come to our informational and social events starting in September!

A message from Graham, your International Programming Don:

Welcome to Innis, home to some of the nicest folks in Toronto! I’m your International Don this year. I’m from Saskatchewan, which though still in Canada, is regarded by some Torontonians as a foreign country (mainly because I play up the differences, which I can do because no one’s been there!). My major is history, with minors in drama and creative writing (which baffles my friends in economics). In my spare time, I like to write, play jazz, and read as much as possible. You can pretty much always find me around the building (Innis Residence), doing something. When I’m not living the Don life, I’m running Innis Jamz, working with the History Students’ Association, or studying frantically. Come talk to me about transitioning to the city, university life, and old books and music.
