An ink cartridge is not properly installed (not clicked into place).
Re-install the ink cartridge properly.
No ink cartridge installed 5 U051 1401 The ink cartridges are not installed.
Install the ink cartridges.
Non-supported ink cartridge installed
5 U059 1485 An installed ink cartridge is not supported.
Install the supported ink cartridge.
Wrong position of the ink cartridge (iP6210D/ iP6220D only)
U076 1486 The ink cartridge is installed in a wrong position.
Install the ink cartridge in the correct position.
Multiple ink cartridges of the same type installed (iP6210D/iP6220D only)
U075 1487 Multiple ink cartridges of the same type are installed.
Install the proper ink cartridges.
Non-supported ink cartridge installed
14 U140 1684 An installed ink cartridge is not supported.
Install the supported ink cartridge.
Hardware error 15 U052 1682 An ink cartridge is broken. Re-install the ink cartridge. If the error is not cleared, replace it with a new ink cartridge.
Remaining ink amount unknown
16 U161U162
16851686
A once-used ink cartridge is installed. (The error does not occur when the same ink cartridge is re-installed immediately after it is removed.)
Replace it with a new ink cartridge.Or, press the Resume/Cancel button to continue printing without ink cartridge replacement. In that case, the remaining ink amount is not detectable.
No ink 4 U041 1600 The ink is used up.*1: iP6210D, iP6220D, MP150, MP170, MP450*2: iP2220, iP1600, iP1200
[Original specifications]If a once-used ink cartridge is re-installed back, the “remaining ink amount unknown” error occurs.
e.g. Cartridge A -> Cartridge B -> Cartridge A [New] [New] [Used] Error type:
Error A: Sufficient ink is supposed to remain in the installed-back cartridge. (Error code: 161)
Error B: No ink is supposed to remain in the re-installed cartridge. (Error code: U162)
Change of Specifications for Once-Used FINE Cartridge (1/2)
<2 concerns>• The error will occur when a user has multiple ink cartridges of
the same color and uses them one after another before they become empty.
• In repair servicing, if the service-use print head is used to confirm the printer operation, the error will occur when the user re-installs his/her own ink cartridges in the repaired printer.
[New specifications]Elimination of the “remaining ink amount unknown” error (Error A, error code 161) Even when a once-used ink cartridge is re-installed back after another ink cartridge is installed and removed, the re-installed cartridge can be used with the remaining ink amount detection function enabled. However, since the remaining ink amount of the re-installed ink cartridge is based on the ink cartridge information (4 levels of remaining ink amount), there may be some errors in detecting the ink amount.
[New firmware version]iP1200/iP1600/iP2200: V.1.04 (Feb. 2006)iP6210D/iP6220D: V.1.06 (Dec. 2005)MP150/MP170/MP450: V.1.08 (MP150: Nov. 2005

New Errors
User ErrorPaper output support error (3 blinks of the Alarm lamp)
Problem: The paper output support does not operate properly during printing (for the first time).
Solution: Remove any obstacle, if any, from the paper output support, and press the Resume/Cancel button.
Service ErrorPS cam sensor error (14 alternate blinks of the Alarm and Power lamps)
Problem: The paper output support does not operate properly at power-on, or the paper output support error (user error) is not resolved by the Resume/Cancel button.
Solution: Turn the printer off and turn it on again. (If the problem persists, repair servicing will be required.)
Service Mode
Special NotesIf the printer does not start properly in the service mode (the Power lamp keeps blinking in green), disconnect the power cord, plug it in, then start the printer in the service mode again.
Reason: If the automatic power-on function is enabled in the printer, the printer enters the service mode for the first time, but it will never enter the service mode if the printer is turned off by the Power button. This is because the printer remains to be turned on internally if the power is turned off by the Power button. To prevent this, disconnection of the power cord is required before starting the printer in the service mode.

Special Notes on Repair Servicing - 1
[After Platen Unit removal and reassembly]Major replacement parts:
Platen, Carriage, Paper Output Support, Paper Feed Roller
After the Platen Unit is assembled, attach the new Ink Absorbers (QC1-8876, QC1-8877), since they will be torn when the Platen is removed from the printer unit.
Special Notes on Repair Servicing - 2
[After Purge Unit and Waste Ink Tube replacement]After the Purge Unit and Waste Ink Tube are replaced, attach the new Tube Cover.Without the tube cover, the tube may be pinched and blocked when assembling the printer unit into the bottom case, preventing proper purging, resulting in ink leakage or strange noise.
