Establishing Shot – Extreme Close Up On Eye• The first shot of the sequence will be an extreme close-up on the main

characters eye. At this point the audience does not know whether he is a protagonist or an antagonist but due to the first shot’s focus being mainly him, it indicates that he has a key part in the story.

• There will be non-digetic sound edited in of someone talking but you cannot establish what they are saying as their voice will be muffled and using a shell shock sound effect this will clearly show that he isn’t paying any attention and is focusing on other things which are not revealed but creates curiosity as to what they are. At this point nothing is revealed about the location of the scene creating ambiguity among the viewers.

Over The Shoulder Shot Of Teacher Revealing Scene• The next shot in the sequence will be an over the shoulder shot of the

teacher who is revealed to be the one talking to the boy. It is still not revealed what she is saying as the “shell shocked” effect of her muffled voice and ears ringing will still be in place. This confirms that the boy is not listening to what she is saying as shown by his facial expressions and the non-digetic sound effects.

Close Up Shot Of Teacher Hitting The Desk• The next shot of the sequence will be a straight cut from the over the

shoulder shot to a close up of the desk the boy is sitting at. As the teacher bangs on the desk, the shell shock effect immediately stops, indicating that the boy is “back in the room” and no longer in a trance of his own thoughts.

• The sound of the teacher hitting the desk will be added in after recording, thereby using Foley as the volume of the sound can be increased creating more of a jump effect on the audience, this could also hint to the audience to expect more jumpy moments in this film aiding to establish the genre.

• The use of a straight cut makes the scene have a straight flow and also makes it more unexpected to the audience; if a cross-fade transition was used then the audience would clearly see the desk and expect something to happen whereas using a straight cut will make it all of a sudden thus creating the jump effect.

Over The Shoulder Shot Revealing Teacher• In this shot the identity of the teacher is revealed and the speech is now

clear. “Not listening again. Get a grip of yourself boy!” is the only thing spoken in this shot. By using the word “again” it shows to the audience that this problem isn’t new for the boy, it has become a common behaviour within himself.

• The camera then fades to black and there is a second of dead silence creating a sense of ambiguity in regards as to what is wrong with the boy and why is he behaving this way.

• The silence is then broken by the school bell ringing and continues into the start of the next shot.

Long Shot Showing Boy and Scenery To Extreme Close Up Of Face

• The camera then cuts to a longshot showing the boy walking out of school alone with an angered expression on his face.

• At this point there will be the noise of the crowd walking out of school which we shall record then edit it in to reduce the risk of wind distorting the noise. There will also be a sound effect building up to a climax which will happen at the end of this shot.

• He will continue walking towards the camera without changing any expression on his face. He will continue to walk towards the camera until the shot is an extreme close up of his face showing no scenery.

• He will then close his eyes and the climax of sounds will all straight cut to dead silence.
